THE Eu Yan Sang herbal formula at the centre of a health scare is the 135-year-old traditional Chinese medicine retailer's best-selling product, accounting for 14 per cent of the group's revenues each year.
The company's chief executive Richard Eu, the great-grandson of Eu Kong, the founder of Eu Yan Sang, said that until the health scare involving Bo Ying Compound, the company had had no issues with lead poisoning for more than a century.
Referring to the alleged poisoning case in the US, he said: "We think we're unfortunate victims of all this. A dietary supplement (where higher levels of lead are acceptable) was tested as a food additive.
"Social media being what it is, everything spread, so there's a lot of misunderstanding of the situation."

With reference to the article in The Straits Times, headlined “Higher lead levels allowed in food,
supplements here”, published on 8 October 2014, Eu Yan Sang Group (“Group”) would like to point
out that the statement in the article, “US regulators had found 2.5 parts per million (ppm) of lead in a
retail sample of Bo Ying compound, and 16 ppm in a sample provided by Eu Yan Sang” is erroneous.
According to the information presently available to the Group, the US health authorities tested two
samples of Bo Ying Compound for lead. One sample was provided by the family of the child who had
allegedly consumed the Bo Ying Compound, and it was tested to contain lead content of 16 ppm.
Another sample was purchased by the US health authorities at a retail store randomly, and it was
tested to contain lead content of 2.5 ppm.
The Group has appointed US lawyers to liaise with the US health authorities to obtain more
information.
The Group has never exported any "Hong Kong Bo Ying Compound" to the U.S. Bo Ying Compound
of Eu Yan Sang in the U.S. is produced locally in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) facilities to
ensure that our product fully complies with the quality assurance standards.
The Group would like to reiterate that all Eu Yan Sang products manufactured and retailed at our
stores and authorised distributors in our core markets (namely, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore)
have been cleared by the health authorities in the respective countries and are safe for consumption.

Congratulations !

Eu Yan Sang’s Chairman, Mr Robert Eu, conferred 2014 Chinese Business Leaders Award, only Singapore business leader amongst ten awardees comprising business leaders of enterprises in China and overseas.

A centennial company. The Group has come a long way from its humble beginnings offering TCM remedies to tin mine coolies in Gopeng, Perak, Malaysia 135 years ago. Today, Eu Yan Sang is a household name in Asia with an unrivalled reputation as the leader in the TCM industry.

I concur...

Its an old branding but somehow the TCM business model is not as defensive as demonstrated over the years.

EYS stuff getting very expensive. This herbal soup went up from $10 to $18 within 5 years. Crazy. Rather go hock hua and buy. Cheaper.

The EYS products are promoted as premium product, and priced at a premium. I checked them out, and the company products are indeed high quality, but I am a bit skeptical on the premium charged.

I also bought most stuffs from Hock Hua, instead of EYS.

I used to like their business. Their products have been used for generations and gain high reputation.

But recently the management has kind of losing their direction. Their recent actions have caused some discomforts on me.

1. Swallow more than they can digest, the australia health supplement store and i don't know how is it going to complement TCM.

2. The investment properties portfolio has been keep ballooning. Probably another Li Ka Shing wannabe in the making.

Eu Yan Sang sees 2Q earnings fall 38% to $1.98 million

SINGAPORE (Feb 3): Eu Yan Sang has posted a 38% fall in earnings to $1.98 million for the 2Q15 ended December from a year ago.

Revenue for 2Q fell 8% to $84.7 million.

For the 1H15 ended Dec, Eu Yan Sang posted a 41% fall in earnings to $2.71 million from a year ago.

The retailer of Traditional Chinese Medicine and operator of TCM clinics says the drop came on the back of falling revenues owing to weaker economic conditions in Hong Kong and China.

The weaker demand was brought about by the Occupy Central Movement, as well as a slowdown in Chinese consumer spending, closure of key stores in Hong Kong and lower sales of major products.

Effects from a shorter period than usual leading to Chinese New Year in core markets Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia also contributed to the decline in sales.

Think they should forget about joining the crowd in the health supplement business & instead focus on TCM herbs, tie up with research institutions, medical institutions & strive improve the effectiveness & quality of their herbs.

Many so call health supplements we find at pharmacies & stores tout countless benefits - 99% of the time, we end users don't really experience any noticeable benefits after consuming them. There is a news report out today about USA federal agency finding that the supplements sold at major stores do not contain the ingredients stated on the labels.
