Chess (or Go) is really nothing more than mathematics, so I'm not surprised that a computer managed to beat a human. There are over 288 billion possible positions after the first 4 moves are played in Chess, no human could possibly figure all of that out, but a computer certainly could.

The other disadvantage that Lee has is that no one knows the playing history of the current version of AlphaGo v18 until this tournament.  Rolleyes

I think he is just not familiar with the AlphaGo moves compared to typical human competitor. He will come around.

The disadvantage that the alphaGo has is that it cannot discuss with other GO experts after the match..Tongue

I'm not familiar with Go but unless its a completely differently game than Chess, as in its not a game of possibilities, there shouldn't be any computer specific moves.

A computer plays the game the same way, the only difference being its vastly superior computing ability (of possible permutations). This is why Chess grandmasters can longer compete with chess programs, modern computers simply have too much computing power.

VR is the theme of technology recently...

Google searches for more eyeballs with live, 360-degree YouTube videos

SAN FRANCISCO — Google is adding live, 360-degree video and audio to its YouTube videos, as the company seeks to capture people’s attention and advertisers’ budgets with more elaborate content.

The videos can be viewed on standard personal computers or with virtual reality (VR) headsets via the YouTube app on Android phones.

YouTube has had 360-degree videos since March 2015.

A new idea in execution...

Want a vehicle that drives itself? Trucks may be first in line

SAN FRANCISCO — Imagine you are driving on a highway late at night when a big-rig truck closes in behind you. You relax because it is keeping a safe distance and seems to be obeying the speed limit. Now imagine that truck is driving itself.

Despite Silicon Valley’s enthusiasm for self-driving cars, it could be years before there are many of them on the road. But autonomous 18-wheelers? One start-up is betting that is a different matter.

Otto, led by 15 former Google engineers, including major figures from the search company’s self-driving car and maps projects, is aiming at the long-haul freeway driving that is the bread and butter of the commercial trucking industry.

The engineers think that automating trucks rather than passenger vehicles could be more palatable financially and to regulators. Nationally, trucks drive 5.6 per cent of all vehicle miles and are responsible for 9.5 per cent of highway fatalities, according to Department of Transportation data.

If I can only invest in one stock for my life time. I will invest in Alphabet Inc.

- secular trend (traditional media to digital, Cloud, PC to mobile)
- large global platform not fully monetized (Google service users, Youtube viewers, Android users)
- motivated employees (4.4/5 in Glassdoor)
- visionary leadership (Sundar highest rated CEO on Glassdoor in 2016)
- Technically savvy
- Long term investments (in life sciences, autonomous driving, AI, quantum computing)

Vested Core.
