This is interesting haha. Although the profit does not seems much but it shows that isoteam as a solutions provider to property can branch out new revenue stream easily without losing focus as these new revenue streams are branch out from the main river. I am impressed with the management team.

The bike sharing business nature is already well known - high capex and considerable maintenance liabilities. Operating margins (EBITDA) might be high (how much revenue vs how much it costs to operate a bike) but not sure if it can ever produce a net positive return in a small and hot SG market

The market might be a little crowded now - they will have to compete against existing incumbents who have TECH titans as their backing.

Actually I think isoteam may be fully aware of the above points u mentioned... After all they are businessman. But I may be wrong.

Rather I believe the aim of this investment is not to generate a decent profit out of the bike sharing business. They are creating and building something in longer term which align with their vision. Time will tell Smile

I took a quick look at the press release. Don't think they are renting bikes. Rather they are partnering with the government on the parking of bikes using "geo systems". Wonder if they will have any recurring income for the management of these systems, or if it is one off sales.

I looked at the 2 available documents and with the below quote:

"engaged in the wholesale and leasing of bicycles, including the provision of bicycle sharing services"

The individual partners sound to be bicycle renting veterans and so it does sound like they will own and operate them. The differences are that bikes may already be available from the 2 partners to sell to this new JV (so who gain from this really?) and they are introducing "geo systems" to tackle the parking issue. This 2nd difference seems to suggest that they will get subsidies from the gov.

Nonetheless, committment seems to be really small, and so might not be a bad idea after all to learn new things. One never know where the ship brings eventually - with new knowledge and experience, boundaries can be redrawn and competency redefined.
