*SUFFERING IS PREVALENT, HOW CAN WE BE LIBERATED?*

Master Jun Hong Lu, “Do not lose our bearings in the midst of our worries in the hustle and bustle of this mortal world.

We are haunted by worries every single day; unhappy over something that happened today, dissatisfied over what we may hear the next day and dispirited for the bad treatment we may receive from our boss the following day. As much as suffering is prevalent, how can we be liberated? Our Buddhist practices: performing recitation, making vows and life liberation may seem like suffering to us. However, it is the mean that grant us liberation in the end; while for a non-Buddhist practitioner, their suffering is for life.

A person who gives thought to how he wishes to live his advancing years while safeguarding his spiritual wound from going through further torments is a true Buddhist cultivator who is loyal to the reality of life.”

*BE DILIGENT IN PRACTICING BUDDHISM AND IN HELPING OTHERS*

Master Jun Hong Lu: “Please keep this in mind. In terms of practicing Buddhism, first and foremost, you must be diligent. What do we mean by “being diligent?” On a daily basis, you must perform a self-contemplation to find out “Have I done anything wrong? Have I put in my best effort? Have I let Bodhisattva down?” Ponder over these every single day.

Secondly, you must be actively helping others. As only those who help others can become Bodhisattva; while those who don’t help the others are regarded as self-cultivators. Only by helping others can you truly help yourself. All of you are good children, as you are always helping other people. This forms your virtue in your journey of Buddhist practice and cultivation. I hope all of you will persevere and put in your best effort!”

*MASTER JUN HONG LU’S DISCOURSE ON BUDDHIST PRACTICE AND SPIRITUAL CULTIVATION*

Caller: Master Lu, I am very touched by one of your teachings. Let me read it out for all. “In every age, there will be a large number of Bodhisattvas who have attained enlightenment. They attained enlightenment because they are quietly cultivating their mind, introducing Buddhism to other people and helping all sentient beings when other people are indulged in worldly enjoyments. When others have not been able to fathom the true essence of this world, they have already realised the true essence of life. Therefore, when others start seeking the true essence of life after experiencing pains, they would have become Bodhisattvas.”

Master Jun Hong Lu: Let’s take Lu Xun (鲁迅, China’s greatest modern writer for most of the 20th century) as an example. When asked what made him a great writer, he replied: “I spent all my time at work while others used theirs for drinking coffee.” It’s as simple as that. When others are indulged in the pleasures of life, we are diligently practising Buddhism and performing recitation; it will then be our turn to enjoy when others are suffering. That’s the logic behind it.

Caller: I understand now, thank you Master Lu.

*LIVE WITHOUT STRESS THROUGH THE UNDERSTANDING OF NEGATIVE ENERGIES*

Vexation is the punishment we inflict upon ourselves for the mistakes we have done; when we allowed our faults to stick in our mind and torture us long after we returned home.

Regret is when we allow the uncontrollable adverse events in the past to ruin us.

Anxiety is when we allow the virtual and probable risks that have yet to happen to frighten us.

Loneliness is when we confine ourselves in our self-erected cell.

Inferiority complex is when we slander ourselves with the strength of others; failing to understand that each person has their own strength.

Understanding these negative energies will enable us to lead a stress free life; steering away from them will allow us to gain insights, let go of our attachments and gain wisdom.

*TRANSFERRING MERITS IS THE FASTEST SOLUTION TO HELP ONE WHO IS ENCOUNTERING PROBLEMS*

Caller: The child of a fellow Buddhist friend will be sitting for a major exam. He recites 49 times of _*Cundi Dharani*_ (Zhun Ti Shen Zhou) and 21 times of _*Heart Sutra*_ for his child every day. He also intends to transfer some of his merits accumulated through Buddhism propagation to his child, to seek Bodhisattva’s blessing so that his child can pass the exam with flying colours. Master Lu, does the transferring of merits help to achieve the desired outcome much faster?

Master Jun Hong Lu: This is the fastest method, even faster than performing recitation of _Little Houses_ and scriptures. Let me cite a simple example. You have some savings at home. When you need to resolve an arising problem, is it faster for you to earn the money through working or tap directly into your savings at home?

Caller: It’s faster to take it directly out of the savings.
