Reciting Buddhist sutras, practicing life liberation and making great vows cure my cancer

My gratitude to the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva, to the merciful and selfless Master Jun Hong Lu, and to all dharma defenders!

My name is Yu Dashun and I’m 67 years old. I’m from Henan Province. Although I have always believed in Buddhism, I didn’t actually practice it. I only offered incense and kowtowed to Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Fortuna Buddha on the 1st and 15th of every lunar month, to pray for safety and fortune. With the blessing of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, Ms Ding introduced Guan Yin Citta to me when I visited the temple in Putuo Mountain on the birthday of Guan Yin Bodhisattva in the year 2015. Ms Ding gave me some materials of Guan Yin Citta, including introductory booklets, guides, and DVDs. I really treasured them and read them carefully every day. I have gained a lot of knowledge in Buddhism and learnt that we could improve our health and change our destiny by practicing Buddhism and reciting Buddhist scriptures.

When I first learnt how to recite scriptures and Little Houses, a lymphoma, about the size of an egg yolk, grew in my right armpit. It was removed in a surgery but metastasized to my lung, adrenal grand, right arm, left hip and peritoneum. I was very worried and felt hopeless. I made a call to enquire Ms Song and Ms Ding in Tianjin, and they advised me to recite the Heart Sutra and Little Houses, make grand vows, perform life liberation and read the “Buddhism in Plain Terms” every day. During that period, I offered around 200 Little Houses and released more than 60,000 fish. My health greatly improved and my family was very happy for me.

However, not long later, a small lump grew on my vocal cord so that I could barely speak. I was advised by the doctor to remove it with a surgery. Then I visited another hospital, and was told that it was a malignant tumor. I didn’t agree to surgery but considered visiting a reputable hospital in Beijing. Before paying a visit, I told Ms Song and Ms Ding about my situation. They asked me to made grand vows, recite scriptures and Little Houses silently and release as many fish as possible. My daughter recited Little Houses for me and I kowtowed to Guan Yin Bodhisattva 13 times per day and prayed for her to have a benign tumor instead of a malignant one. I made a vow that I would be committed to practicing Guan Yin Citta for the rest of my life with great perseverance and would never recede.

Ms Song wrote an email to Master Jun Hong Lu’s secretariat for me and received a response shortly with new instructions. Thanks to Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master Jun Hong Lu! I followed those new instructions immediately. After 20 days, I visited the hospital in Beijing. The tumor was diagnosed as a benign tumor and it had shrunk. I couldn’t believe it! I sent a message to Ms Song and Ms Ding with great excitement about such a good news. I don’t have any difficulty in speaking now and the other parts of my body have greatly improved as well.

I would like to be one of the thousand eyes and arms of Guan Yin Bodhisattva and introduce Buddhism to more people. Two months after I started practicing Guan Yin Citta, I was told that my friend’s partner had terminal cancer. I hope that they can free themselves from suffering by practicing Buddhism. Therefore, I enquired Ms Song and sent them the materials of Guan Yin Citta. Since I started to practice Buddhism on 19th of lunar February 2015, I have recited 350 Little Houses and my daughter has recited 280 pieces for me. I keep releasing fish every day no-matter what the weather is like. I have released more than 80,000 fish so far. Except for releasing fish and reciting scriptures every day, I will spend one or two hours in introducing Guan Yin Citta and its benefits to my relatives and friends. I also let them know that Little Houses can help us change our destiny and improve our health.

A friend of mine has got esophageal cancer. After the surgery, his had low appetite and a weak digestive system. Ms Ding and I gave him some materials of Guan Yin Citta including the introductory handbook, Buddhism in Plain Terms, DVDs and guide to reciting Little Houses. I also convinced him with my own experience. Since then, he recites scriptures and Little Houses diligently every day, reads Buddhism in Plain Terms and performs life liberations. His health situation has improved significantly as well.

There is a Guan Yin Temple and a primary school near the village I live. On the 1st and the 15th of each lunar month and on some important festivals, many people will visit Guan Yin Temple. However, in rainy days, the road towards the temple and the school will become very muddy, making it difficult for people to walk through. I wrote to the local government to apply for a budget to repair the road in year 2014. The construction was completed in August 2015 and a cement road towards the Guan Yin Temple was built.

My health situation has improved significantly! The medical check that I took on 8 December 2015 confirmed that my peritoneum was cancer free. I found it very hard to believe that I was able to recover within such a short period of time! Guan Yin Bodhisattva has been blessing me mercifully and the power of reciting scriptures, making vows and performing life liberation is truly inspirational. Nothing could express how thankful I feel towards the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva and towards Master Jun Hong Lu. I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude towards those dharma practitioners who have given me help and support. I will be committed to practicing Buddhism diligently under the guidance of Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master Jun Hong Lu for the rest of my life.

My deepest gratitude towards the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva, to the merciful Master Jun Hong Lu, and to all dharma defenders!

With Faith Prayers will be Answered

2017 was a challenging year. My business which paid rental for the office unit could not continue the rental payments due to partnership issues. I prayed to Guan Yin Bodhisattva to lease or sell my office unit at a good price. After 6 months, I became increasing worried as there was no potential tenants or buyers. I began to question my faith. When I despaired, the Dharma Door chat group sent a discourse on praying to Guan Yin Bodhisattva to lessen our burdens. Not once, but twice. I strenghtened my resolve and continued. After another 3 months, there was still no potential tenant or buyer. Then the Dharma Door chat group sent a discourse on karmic obstacles. I then realised it was my own karmic obstacles that was causing this situation. I then prayed to Guan Yin Bodhisattva that I will accept whatever outcomes that is deemed correct. I made new vows. My heart felt lighter even though my husband continuously pressured me to solve the rental issue fast. I carried on my recitations and little houses. Finally after another 2 months, a tenant is confirmed for 2018. My deepest gratitude to the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva, Master Lu and all volunteers who faithfully send selected discourses through the chat groups.

*ADJUST THE AMOUNT OF _MANTRA TO UNTIE KARMIC KNOTS_ BEING RECITED AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME*

Q:  In a recent radio program, Master Lu mentioned that after reciting the _Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots_ 49 times per day for one month, it should be reduced to 27 times per day, the following month.  Is this applicable on a case by case basis or on a regular basis?  In my case, I have been reciting 49 times per day for three months before reducing it to 21 times per day for one month.

A:  It is a regular method. Nevertheless, both methods are fine.

Q&A Session with Buddhist Friends

*QUESTION 5: LANGUAGE IS NOT A BARRIER TO LEARNING BUDDHISM. TRANSLATING MASTER LU'S DISCOURSE AND BOOKS IS ALSO A WAY OF ACCUMULATING MERITS AND VIRTUES*

Q: Many Indonesian Buddhist friends can neither fully understand Master Lu's teachings nor read Master's "Buddhism in Plain Terms", due to their language barrier. Could Master please give your advice to non-Chinese speaking Buddhist friends on how to improve their spiritual state in terms of Buddhism learning?

A: It is as if you are asking, "How do we Chinese communicate with the Westerners?" Through learning the English language! Don't you have bilingual persons who can speak both Indonesian and Mandarin? Can't you translate the teachings and books for the Buddhist friends? With the translated materials, you can teach them and also get a chance to accumulate merits and virtues, isn't it good? (Thank you Master Lu for answering my question.)

*VIRTUE IS GIVING OTHERS HOPE*

Someone once asked me, “What is Virtue?”  Let me tell you that virtue is giving others hope, in other words, imparting wisdom to others.  Virtue is not an external pursuit.  It originates intrinsically from our compassionate nature, which develops into selfless love for all sentient beings, with the aim of helping people in this world.

Buddhist practitioners shall sow seeds extensively in the field of merits and diligently cultivate wisdom to accomplish the true purpose of life.  The cultivation of both merits and wisdom is essential in practising Dharma.  This is because merits and wisdom are just like a pair of aircraft wings.  An aircraft could not take off when either of its wings is absent.  Therefore, a blessed man certainly possesses wisdom, while a wise man is certainly blessed.  So, let’s create a true life of Dharma through the cultivation of mind, merits and wisdom.

*BUDDHA ONCE SAID THAT EVERY ACT OF MERITS MUST BE CARRIED OUT BY ONESELF*

Presently, many people are requesting others to liberate lives or perform recitations on their behalf. And while they are not vegetarians themselves, they would propagate vegetarianism to others.
Master Lu reiterated the importance for Buddhist practitioners to make their own vows and amass their own merits. He frequently prompts us to ponder the efficaciousness of asking someone else to do on our behalf; it is akin to trying to satisfy our hunger by asking someone else to assist on our behalf.

*BE A BODHISATTVA IN THE HUMAN REALM*

Master Jun Hong Lu, “I hope all of you will become more beautiful and kind-hearted as you progress in your cultivation.  It is also my hope that you will be safe and well for the rest of your life.

Please remember, your life can really transform for the better through Buddhist practice.   Just imagine, should you embark on spiritual cultivation from now on, with everything going smoothly coupled with the protection and blessings from Bodhisattva in all aspects of your life, you will surely ascend to Heaven after you pass on.

On the contrary, after embarking on the cultivation journey, if you still feel that life is filled with sufferings and that it is distressful and worrisome, will Western Paradise ever cross your mind?

You must remember, be it Western Paradise or the Four Sagely Realms, it all starts with you.  From today onwards, be a Bodhisattva in the human realm every single day, and you can be assured that you will truly become one in Heaven one fine day”.

(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)

*A BODHI MIND SPROUTS FORTH LOTUSES WITH EVERY STEP*

Caller: Master Lu, could you explain the phrase, “When the mind is congruent with Bodhi, every step forward will sprout lotuses”.

Master Jun Hong Lu: “When the mind is congruent with Bodhi”, the mind must correspondingly be filled with compassion, and embodied wisdom, diligence and courage just like Bodhisattva; whereby “every step forward will sprout lotuses” is an analogy to describe every step taken is on the path of lotus, the path of Bodhisattva.

*PERSIST AND NEVER ALLOW OURSELVES TO SLACKEN IN OUR BUDDHIST PRACTICE*

Master Jun Hong Lu, “I once said, we came to this word crying and at the end we are going to leave this world in tears. Do not be disheartened over some trivial matters. Scientists had already uncovered that all our ailments are related to our energy field. After an outburst of anger, our “qi" will be blocked and results in poor circulation of blood. Consequently, this will lead to development of various types of tumour and other malignant growth in our body. Hence, we must always see through and understand the nature of things; persist and never allow ourselves to slacken in our Buddhist practice. Additionally, we must learn to liberate ourselves without restraint, no matter what life throws at us.”
