*HOW DO WE OVERCOME EGOCENTRISM?*

How do we overcome egocentrism?  It is through understanding the law of causation and cherishing our affinities.  Think about it, “Why do others dislike me?”, “Why do they fail to understand me?” Do not find excuses for ourselves.  We have to recognise where we have wronged.  By doing so, we are bound to realise the fault in us.  Why are there so many people in this world who misunderstand and dislike us?  Surely not all of them are irrational? The fact of the matter is, we are the one who is at fault.  So, stop finding excuses for ourselves.  Firstly, it is our affinity.  Secondly, it is our personal character; hence, be diplomatic when dealing with others.  Learn to retain that pure land within us where we can be at peace, study Buddhism, nurture our spiritual self and that of sentient beings’.

*FAITH IN BUDDHISM DRIVEN BY ONE’S WISH*

A good majority of sentient beings wish for peace and prosperities, hence their belief in Buddha. They assumed that their faith in Buddhism are deep but in reality, their faith hover on the superficial level as they are unable to relinquish their earthly comforts and good fortunes.
In reality, everything in this world is like passing clouds. We are besotted with the enjoyment of materialistic comforts and therefore, we are not willing to relinquish them nor are we able to reflect on the impermanence of time. Just like a person who owned a house but financially would have to work very hard to service the loans and ultimately exhausted himself completely.
We cannot bring along our wealth with us when we passed on. Our spiritual life is the result of our cultivation and it is truly our “only life” that can allow us to transcend the six realms of samsara.

*WHAT DO VARIOUS TYPES OF DREAMS ON ELIMINATION OF NEGATIVE KARMA IMPLY*

Caller:  With regards to elimination of negative karma, if we dreamt about washing clothes, taking a shower, vomiting or buying new clothes, are there differences with regards to the messages from these dreams?

Master Jun Hong Lu:. Certainly, there are.  If you dreamt about washing clothes, it implies that you are cleaning off the filth on your body.  It shows that you are turning over a new leaf.  If you dreamt about taking a shower, it is even more formidable.  It means you are transforming yourself from inside out.

Caller:  What if we dreamt about vomiting something filthy?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  It implies that you are eliminating your karmic obstacles.  It goes to show the presence of negative karma, and the karmic forces or karmic obstacles have begun to form.  This means the transgression has already taken place.

Caller:  What if we dreamt about buying new clothes?

Master Jun Hong Lu: It implies that the person is turning over a new leaf.

Caller:  Generally speaking, how much negative karma will be eliminated with such dreams?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  This is something subjective, it depends.

*HOW TO STRICTLY DISCIPLINE CHILDREN*

Caller: There is a two-and-a-half-year-old child who, due to lack of awareness at such tender age, is overbearing, unwilling to share with others and likes to push others. Such a child is particularly overbearing, and poor in conduct. Can we, as parents, be strict with him by lecturing, disciplining and beating him?

Master Jun Hong Lu: You can punish him! Let him kneel down or stand at a corner. Do not beat a child, as it is not good to do so. The only exception for you to punish by beating is when you have deep rooted love for your child. In general, when the affinity between you and the child is not deep and he does not have much affection for you, he will run away when you beat him.

*TO FORGIVE OTHERS IS TO BE KIND TO ONESELF*

Master Jun Hong Lu: “If you wish to receive help from others, you must first offer help to others; if you wish to be loved by others, you must first love others; if you wish to gain benefits, you must first let others gain benefits from you; a tolerant person is able to transform a foe to a friend. There are two things that you must learn to endure in life – one is to learn to endure hardships, and the other, which is more important, is to learn to take the short end of the stick.”

*“BODHISATTVAS FEAR CAUSES, SENTIENT BEINGS FEAR EFFECTS”*

In cultivation, we should focus our efforts on the “cause” rather than to pray for the impending “effect”: “Bodhisattvas fear causes, sentient beings fear effects”.

Bodhisattvas would have contemplated on the effects of the deeds prior to committing it, whereas sentient beings carelessly commit causal actions without properly realising its retribution.  When the effects occur later, they will suffer and start to pray for Bodhisattva’s blessing.  That being said, we should focus our efforts on the "causes" rather than fervently praying for favorable "effects" to come about.

*A DROP OF WATER*[emoji98]

Someone asked Lord Buddha, “As human, how do we prevent our single drop of water from ever drying up, especially when it tend to evaporate even more rapidly under the sun”. Lord Buddha replied, “To prevent this drop of water from drying up, we will have to put it into the river, lake or sea”. Similarly, when we are able to unite our heart with those of sentient beings’, we are able to rise above lives’ many obstacles and resolve its many grievances.

*EXPLAIN WHEN NECESSARY BUT DO NOT OVERDO IT*

Caller: Master Lu, how do Buddhist practitioners put into practice "Not explaining is the best explanation"? Is it possible to achieve this through actions in order to remove all vexations?

Master Jun Hong Lu: You still have to explain when necessary. However, do not overly explain. It suffice when you make your point clear. It’s now the Age of Dharma Decline, not the Age of the Right Dharma, during which explanation was not needed as self-realisation prevailed in everyone: when you stop talking, the other party will follow suit as he will be immediately enlightened. Nowadays people get confused easily, therefore you have to explain when the need arises.

Caller: If we would like to resolve everything in a non-confrontational manner...

Master Jun Hong Lu: It’s impossible. For example, your husband suspects that you are having an affair, what happen if you do not explain and remain silent? He will be very angry at you. It’s that simple. Can you afford not explaining under such circumstances?

Caller: We still have to explain when necessary, otherwise it will deepen the misunderstanding.

Master Jun Hong Lu: People today are different from people in the past. Their morality and standards have deteriorated.
