I think you are wrong here about boundary changes.

Many countries actually do, the most famous of them all is the great U.S.A.

^^ i think the problem is that it is under PMO rather than some bipartisan or independent committee

It is a genuine issue when 40% of the population is represented by 4 MP in a Republic system

If opposition really win and form the next govt, who can be the PM? Who can be the next Tharman? The other day i saw Tharman gave speech at IMF, I cannot imagine who in the opposition can do that. Who from the opposition can hold his own among world leaders during G21 meet? Do you bring ideas and visions to those meetings or are you there to tell them look here, I have nothing to offer but I can check you?

Just because someone can represent a country on world stage doesn't mean that he can solve problems...

Modern Politicians can be really political when it comes to solving problems since their main job is politics and that is usually in the name of society's welfare... However, in view of widespread societal issues globally, how effective are politicians?

If the opposition win, they will more likely form a coalition with pap.

No one in local politics would be so foolish to think that pap only wields political power. Look at which boards some of these people are sitting on.

In any case, politics is fluid. If hypothetically, the opposition can win by a landslide due to extreme incompetence by pap, why would tharman then stay with pap? And to look at it another way, tharman speeches are also prepared for him, though I do not doubt that he is very clever to speak with a mind of his own.

I will put it very bluntly. If the opposition wins the govt, we are screwed because the masters behind many of our local businesses and politics will be different.

Wielding political power is merely one form of power. Businesses too have influence on politician's actions. Look no further than to US; where business lobby/interest groups exist trying to jostle to be the influence of politicians' actions and yes, they are successful in their lobbying. On the local scene, many of our business and politicians have align interests currently due to the presence of majority shareholders.

As to my reaction of the article, I find it a mere overreaction from the current ruling party. At best only 15 seats will be to the opponents. It will take time to pry away from Temasek and Ascendas the influence they have on the local business scene; only when a decentralization of power of govt linked firms occur, will oppositions stand a chance to form a government.

Mathematically there are not enough credible parties to result in a coalition scenario

We also forget PAP was once the "opposition" against a long track record British Empire

In politics i think it is right from their point of view to be paranoid. But from a development point of view we probably need a wider representation even though IMHO it is undisputed fact that PAP has done well for our progress, relative to other third worlds or absolute basis

The 2 main gripes i have is their focus on PnL for essential services and their elitism. Permanent Secretary need to be elites. Leaders need to have right values and principles. They've confused the 2.

Some have the sensations to behave and think like what PM Lee claimed , but the fact is no body is INDISPENSABLE .
If this ship sink , jump to another ship like what our forefathers did.
People who think we cannot survive without anyone are those who have no self confidence or ability to stand on his on.
When one has the ability except those who think like parasites , he/she can survive anywhere and has nothing to fear.
Like our beloved Mr. LKY said, it is stupid to be afraid.

Yes, "it is stupid to be afraid", but it is also stupid not to feel afraid.

A person who doesn't feel afraid, will think that no extra effort needed, or even going for war without any preparation

A person who feel afraid, will do utmost preparation before the war, and doesn't afraid in front of foes.

Of course, he sure didn't feel afraid when he lock up people without trial.
