cyclone, do u have a blog that you can keep our fellow buddies updated on the status whenever VB is down again?
There was no indication whether the server was down permanently (like its predecessors) or temporary.
You can't imagine how many times I had refreshed my VB bookmark during the downtime. This website has become my daily read.

When I tried accessing the website yesterday or the day before, I saw the goodbye message and thought this must be it. Game over. But glad that all the info is still here.

Good idea! My suggestion is to use Facebook eg. Register a ValueBuddies account or create a ValueBuddies FB Page for the purpose of keeping everyone updated in case the server goes down. An alternative would be a blogspot or wordpress blog for the same purpose.

I'm actually a little amused that some chaps over at HWZ was speculating that VB was taken down because of MDA licensing scheme or demands by lawyer's letter.

licencing is not enforcable. example MDA looking to filter url sammyboy.com at IP adress 10.1.1.1 example by just changing the site IP address and renaming url maybe change to sammygirl.com 20.1.1.1 will already bypass and circumvent any MDA filtering.

Rarely it will be so simplistic there is usually a hidden and long term angle behind it. My view is they get this law enacted so that they can use to later go after political rivals or anybody they trying to supress is what this is all about.

A buggy php-fpm daemon that hanged, which also caused the server rebooting became hanged. The server became unusable. I had to start from scratch. Built another server, installed the required softwares, etc. So it took a long time. Should be ok now. Sorry.

Do you have high availability for the server? And clone the software, postings on a daily / weekly basis?

May I know if all the VB readers here to chip in money to buy the infrastructure for this added resilience.

We have benefitted a lot from the forum, I think we can and should chip in to help the infrastructure be more resilient.
