you have no idea what is a "value trap". hahaha.

the small discount to NTA of UIS was around 5% only. The value will be unlocked in time by itself.

It is just that there is a share overhang problem associated with Laxey Partners. Its price will inevitably be depressed. It has nothing to do with value trap.

in term of performance measure in SGD, UIS is getting worse and worse.

the current NTA of UIS is around 1.51, not too far the low of 1.3 during the bottom of the financial crisis, though market indexes in US is the highest since financial crisis.

My take is that:

1. currency loss. Strong SGD has contributed to part of the under-performance.

2. overweight on China. SSE is near to the worst during financial crisis (Oct 2008), around the same level in March 2009(the worst for the rest of the world).

If lets say Laxey offers to sell you each UIS shares at $1.10 subject to you taking bulk quantities of 1000lots, would you do it? Smile

Laxey Partners has pared down half of it's stake, now owns less than 5% of UIS.

if Laxey's sale can be further absorbed by share buyback, it removes significant share overhang. the discount to its NAV will be narrow.

A Life not Reflected is a Life not Worth Living.

Few years ago, while searching for value stocks, I mooted the idea of searching Mr Wee's empire and try to id what's the main stocks to own.

Nothing come out because the spider web is too complex.
Based on my time constraints, I narrowed down to UIS.

UIS business is easy to understand and everyone know that it's under-value.

I asked myself, if someone could buy STI ETF or Unit Trust at NTA, then what's stopping them from buying UIS at 25-35% discount?

I gotten my answer from VB.
Thank you very much VB. Gratitude.

I waited patiently for trigger/entry point.

When Laxey started selling, I put UIS under watchlist.

Oct 29 2012 - UIS started to do share buy-back is my trigger point.

Luckily, UIS normally does not have any transaction...
but during Oct-Dec 2012, huge volume come in...
I waited for the price to drop patiently and then brought loads and loads of UIS until I max out.

Feb 2013 - 5.5 cents is really sweet (expected)

Just before the xd, UIS peaked at a cool $1.27, then drop to a low of 1.09 in Sep 2013.

MOS always range between 25-35% until today.

Few days ago, I read Dr Chan and Wu LY's comments and decided to raise my cash level and let go 3 lots of UIS just two days ago.

ng & opmi - thank you very much...
