For many years, all these handphone makers have been getting a free lunch at the expense of creative. Creative didnt had the means to launch a legal suit against all the handphone makers back then because Apple and Samsung was dragging the lawsuit. Now that a precedent has been set, Creative is free to sue all the handphone makers in the world that violates their patent.

If the above 7 companies agree to pay between 5-10USc per share in licensing fees, Creative will report very good earnings next financial year.

A precedent had already been set about 10 years ago when Creative won US$100m from Apple on the MP3 player. Next to nothing since then I think but I don't follow it that closely already

It will be wonderful if creative has a biz model similar to ARM

Problem why they don't have ARM's developing IP is because there is an inherent limit on how good our analogue hearing can be, despite what audiophiles claim.

Similarly 8K resolution is probably pushing it for a typical Singaporean living room considering the max TV size and viewing distance, just as a 4R photograph taken with 2MP and 8MP camera is not going to be big difference, native not post processing. That's the concept behind Apple's retina screens. Our analogue senses are amazing in detail and collaboration but there's still a limit.

Demand on processing speed OTOH is technically unsatisfiable.

litigation settlement with RPX

The RPX client network is the largest and most successful collaborative effort to reduce the cost and risk of NPE litigation. Since 2008, the network has grown to over 300 companies, ranging from early-stage firms to Fortune 100 industry leaders.

As the network has steadily expanded, we have established strong representation in a wide array of sectors, both in core technology areas (E-commerce, mobile communications, networking, semiconductors, software, etc.) and increasingly in less traditional technology markets, such as financial services and automotive, where NPE litigation is on the rise.

Our consistently strong renewal rate illustrates the viability and durability of RPX’s patent risk solutions and our clients’ belief in our ability to help them significantly reduce the cost of NPE litigation.

http://www.straitstimes.com/business/cre...ei-lawsuit

Singapore soundcard maker Creative Technology has scored yet another legal victory against a technology giant - this time against China's Huawei, one of the world's largest telecom equipment makers.

Creative yesterday said the company and its subsidiary, QMax Communications, were awarded $36 million in damages over a failed nationwide wireless broadband project in 2012.

All in plus the RPX corporation settlement, this will likely cause Creative to accumulate (almost) twice its existing share price in cash/free cash position (over next year or so), depending on its cash burn.

Market's probably valuing it at such a discount due to company's non-investor friendly dividend policy.?

(vested this morning).
