The manufacture oled is already cheaper??

http://www.mobileindustryreview.com/2016...n-lcd.html

[A recent report by IHS Technology claims that production costs for LCD and AMOLED displays for 5-inch devices are $14.60 and $14.30 respectively, meaning that for the first time AMOLED screens are cheaper than their LCD counterparts]

Hopefully CDW will still make money in an industry that is starting to become "sunset" Reckon the transition to OLED will take around 5 years just like the transition to LED from LCD. UNfortunately Samsung probably has most of the market cornered and it will be hard for Jap or American companies to compete whether or not their manufacturing base is in China.

Also recent board change with Jap guy replacing jap director.

Seems the Jap director leaving wil still remain to spearhead the F&B expansion. But this means probably cash will be used for acquistion or capex in that area.

Will probably wait and see what the next quarterly results show before collecting more.

Quarterly out, 1Q16. Revenue still down and flat. Net profit almost zero.

[The LCD Backlight Units (“BLU”) segment remains at low level as the Group faced a delay in production of
LCD BLU for smartphones due to the delayed launch of a new model by its customer’s end-customer.
Nevertheless, it is currently bolstered by a relatively stable global positioning system device for automobile
business.]

looks like have to wait another few quarters more depending on when that delayed launch of new model happens before jumping in Big Grin

let's see if the employees are eager to exercise their stock options. if yes then probably they can foresee bad times.. could the lcd backlight production delay be due to a new type of screen as requested by the major customer?

Here's Why the Apple Inc. iPhone 7 Could Face a Delay

this is what i found surfing the internets. apparently the recent earthquake in Japan may cause the iphone 7 production to delay or supply blocked if Sony can't ramp up the camera sensor production in time. So likely this delay is confirmed, since CDW is reporting customer of major customer delay launching delay, and so happen Sharp is one of the supplier of the screens for iphones, more so now that foxconn has bought it over.

However even with delays and potential losses next few quarters, there will be likely a massive rebound when the orders do eventually come through and get reflected in the balance sheet. We are talking Apple and Iphone here.

So just keep an eye out for increasing trade receivables to know when CDW will ramp up.

I expect company will do more share buy backs or we could see some insider buying soon.

Why is it "if yes then probably they can forsee bad times"?
If they exercise, isnt it because they forsee better times ahead?
Anyway the exercise price ($0.108) is way below current price, so they'd definitely exercise.
There's no lock in period though, so the key question is would they sell after exercising

This is as random as the Udon business. Ok the only connection to all of it is the Japanese network.

This is a sunset, last few cash flow puff kind of business for me. Not too sure about what to expect from the new business ideas. Hope they don't throw in too much money into the new "fun" stuff. Better focus on squeezing the last bit of out the old business.

They are only investing small amount lah for the hair growth product, though sounds sexy but its unlikely to solve balding problem.

[Under the Agreement, CDW Holding will acquire a total of eight IPRs related to the functional use and manufacture of Pterostilbene Glycoside products once their patents are granted, from
Meisterbio for a consideration of JPY100 million cash (approximately SG$1.35 million).

Pterostilbene Glycoside is a functional organic compound which has antioxidant, anti-aging and
hair growth benefits, making it applicable to the nutricosmetics and dietary supplement
industries. Its key constituent, Pterostilbene, is a phytoalexin compound produced by small berry
plants like blueberries, cranberries, lingonberries and grapes to ward off the damage of
pathogens such as bacteria or fungi.]

Sunset wise LCD/LED backlight manufacture should be around for a couple more years. Since now OLED is on par in terms of costs so there will be a switch to that platform gradually, dun think everyone can produce OLED panels as cheaply as LED yet.. CDW should be able to switch to OLED manufacturing at some point, that would need some CAPEX to upgrade their current factories, but with so much cash should not be a problem.

With China Gov now pushing for more growth in the TECH sector there might still be upside later this year.  Just wait for news on the orders loh next quarters, it is gonna take a while for the Foxconn people to restructure SHARP and after the staff shuffling only will business resume.
