This is really funny, of course OLED can be used for automobiles and other screens, in fact any screen can use OLED, samsung OLED TV can even go up to 88inches. OLED screens can also be made flexible rather than just flat.
A better answer would be that OLED is more expensive to produce and common mass produced autos will not be fitted with OLED screens due to high cost of OLED.

Other than that, thank you very much for attending the AGM and the info! Big Grin

Did anyone ask the most important question which is any order book coming in for the new backlights? Tongue

It seems Foxconn's Sharp is moving towards producing OLED screens for Iphones in 2018

Yes, someone did asked about the Order Book. Shareholders seems satisfied with the answer.
I can't remember the answer, next time I'll try to take note.

Probably it's good news with the order book hence the price positive, despite poor market sentiment, possibly someone collecting.

According to ED&CFO Philip, CDW has sending samples of New Generation light guide to existing and potential customers for evaluation and their feedbacks are satisfactory. However, there is no confirmation of new orders yet. General market is still bad and mass order is delayed.

Someone also asked about any material impacts on the company of takeover of Sharp by Foxconn.
Philip said company cannot comment on any cooperate exercise because of signing of MOU with customers. However, CFO did say the investment of Foxconn in sharp which is in financial difficulty will probably help in Sharp business.  In term, it will probably benefit Sharp's Suppliers.

If my feel is correct, cdw this year focus will be in their new F&B business. Chairman did hint that the company hope to announce some good news related to F&B this year. Furthermore, the company is looking for someone experience in F&B to head the business. The following is the Udon restaurant business bailed out by CDW and it has turned profitable.

Chairman expected that mass production of OLED will not happen till 2018 probably due to price. He also said LCD BLU still has its market because of its safety and reliability compared to OLED. Example of usage is in automobiles screens and GPS.

The following are some of the disadvantages of OLED:
Lifetime - While red and green OLED films have longer lifetimes (46,000 to 230,000 hours), blue organics currently have much shorter lifetimes (up to around 14,000 hours[source: OLED-Info.com]).
Manufacturing - Manufacturing processes are expensive right now.
Water - Water can easily damage OLEDs.

Previously in Dec 2015, Philip replied my query saying that the udon business has 90yrs of history and there are currently no plans to expand this business.
CDW is in the midst of doing "market research"

His reply regarding the new panels is similar: they have sent samples and potential clients feedback is positive but no orders yet.
The new gen panels are "co developed with a Taiwanese company".

Safety? What safety issues would OLED have?

I was at the AGM too. There was question on the order but they mentioned current stage, their customer are still testing out but they are confidence in securing the order.

The management still wish to stay in LED business which I find very risky.
Sure OLED maybe expensive now but technology move at a very exponential rate. Before year 2000, not many people own a cell phone/laptops but right now almost everyone have an Smart Phones. It is only a matter of time before technology makes manufacturing of OLED cheaper.  Also, there is no detailed response to Foxconn + Sharper issue. They have set up an office in Bangladesh but they mention, its jus an office with no plans on what to do with it. It is jus their foothold in Bangladesh which they believe is the next emerging market (China 20 years ago in their words). And also the FnB business.
Overall, I was disappointed as they do not have a solid plan to diversify out of LED.
