Although Courts, Harvey Norman, Best Denki, Popular, NTUC, etc, are selling some IT merchandise, they have somewhat limited range (product types and models) compared to those avail in IT specialty shops like Challenger. I was looking for external HDD in courts, which I was surprised they do not sell. Sim Lim Square shops, though sell cheaper prices, can be inconvenient (in terms of location and opening hours) for casual and less-techie buyers. Challenger somewhat managed to fill in this gap, coupled with attractive membership program that keeps bringing members back.

Uh... when I was at Challenger Parkway Parade, looking for a USB HDD, I casually strolled down to Giant below and they've got a different (but same Japanese) brand, same capacity and spec (2.0) but cheaper than Challenger even after Member discount.

I don't think it matters that there are better deals out there than Challenger.

I think Challenger, with an increasing member base and store base, will eventually be able to have people trapped in the following thought train :

I need a USB HDD -> Where can I get a USB HDD? -> Challenger lah, after all I'm a member (or, my father is a member and I know his IC number so yeahhh I can take advantage of the member privileges without paying for membership woohoo!) -> goes to Challenger and does his shopping intra-store (picking out HDDs between different brands/shelves at the same store, and there are a LOT of choices there)

They may not know that Giant has a cheaper HDD, but who makes Giant their natural shopping choice for HDDs? When I think of Giant, I think of groceries, soft drinks and maybe household tools at most. Not buying HDDs.

They are cheap. Around SL square price or lower.
I saw Seagate and Hitachi Mobile X USB hard drive before.
3 years warranty.

4.7% + 2% discount if it is paid by Citibank SMRT card.

I respect them...but PB20 vs. PB4.5. Too expensive. I sure hope Challenger can catch up.

No wonder they started selling table fan!

I bought a Toshxxx, warranty is same everywhere, whether ii's Challenger/Giant/SLS. So far so good.

Challenger has completed the 1-for-2 bonus issue today.....

With the issuance of 115.069m new bonus shares today, Challenger now has 345.208m outstanding issued shares. Would this bring about better liquidity?

I now look forward to the coming $0.011/share FY10 Final dividend, with "XD" date fixed on 12May11, and payment on 31May11.

Saw that challenger has the newest tablets on display at jurong point. Creative Ziio, Archos 7 and galaxy tab. Good to see they are keeping up with the trends.

Anyone notice that the varieties of cables and adaptors that Challenger is getting larger? Managed to get a optical cable 3m from them last month without stopping at simlim or tower.

Just wondering if they are making $ from printers? these pieces of hardware seems to take up alot of space in stores.

From what I know, it's not the printers take make the money, it's the ink. Informative pictures attached.

I think its a great company .. but with the recent run-up in price , its looking a lot less attractive as an investment now.
