As long as you kept the top informed, out of respect, then you can take whatever necessary actions without causing too much stir. If the top are informed beforehand, they could dance along with your music or put up some "wayang" all for the purpose of a show. The underlying relationship does not change. But if there are surprises, like only getting to find out from the media, then things could become complicated.

Ah.... i have said if the drivers are all Sink aporeans then most probably they have all landed in "Changi's FOC hotel" or some place the same on the first instance. Papys will speak so loud to you about the Labour's Laws that you could not hear. It's like you handle your own "growing-up children" with no fear of any repercussions but not other people's growing-up children. Surely there will be repercussions from their fathers. Especially so much more bigger, stronger and powderful than you many times over. So Sink aporeans become 2nd or even 3rd class citizens as far as in many Laws of Sink apore are concerned. Sad but it's true in a way. Why? i think it's because Sink apore is really, really a little "RED DOT" that really does not matter much if it disappears like the legend of "The Lost Continents of Atlantis. Do Papys have any choice? They have many. Many at the expense of Sink aporeans lol!

Don't read too much into the 2004 Taiwan visit. China was just doing wayang protocol because Singapore position on cross straits is very clear. We even have base in Taiwan. LHL visiting as PM now would have more implication, that's why he did it BEFORE.
China sovereignty issue is very serious because the Chinese felt they have been "bullied" for centuries by the Europeans and later the Japanese and Americans. The foreigners underestimate Chinese will in this matter, and the sacrifice they are willing to take, at least for the foreseeable future and certainly in the past. There is no compromise to status quo. This strike involves numerous PRC Chinese so the diplomat has to step in. Not unexpected protocol. It is not impossible that if no resolution these PRC Chinese will be sent back and SMRT starts recruitment again. More serious is whether they will be charged for illegal strike.

(i think the best so far) As Papys has declared it's illegal strike can Papys now not see that the Laws of the Land be followed through? A penalty of $2000 fine or 12 months of "Or Tau Png". Or both if i am not mistaken? How they carry it out is another matter. i mean more than one way to "wayang, wayang ma". But not too much & too obvious at the expense of Sink aporeans. We all not only need to survive but we want our faces too leh.

Day 1 - 171 drivers
Day 2 - 88 drivers By the end of Day 2, the fact that this is an illegal strike is known. It remains to be seen how many did not report to work on Day 3. Those 83 drivers who reported back to work on Day 2 may get away with just a warning (pleading ignorance with SG labour law, etc); but those who persisted to Day 3 will likely face the full force of the law for blatantly breaking the law.

Fay was different, he was the son of a very senior official in the Clinton Administration if you recall. That was why Clinton came in and after we snubbed them they too gave us the cold shoulder for almost a year. |
