It is illegal to strike in Singapore on essential services providers, isn't it?
A strike is defined as "the cessation of work by a body of persons employed in any essential service acting in combination, or a concerted refusal or a refusal under a common understanding of a number of persons who are or who have been so employed to continue to work or to accept employment",
Essential services includes public transport.
Will this group of bus drivers been penalized on their strike?

I wish someone as draconian as LKY would step in and ask them F. off.
If they are unhappy with their pay scale, then leave.
Its not just about unfairness of pay scale anymore.
The government must "kill one chicken to scare a hundred monkeys".
Else every few weeks we would be getting this kind of scenario.
Anyone can tahan that?

will be interesting.
i remember in 2004 (sometime ard there) over SIA - LKY came in and said something like "45% didn't protest so they will stay - if need be he will get rid of the 55% who protested"
i do think that SMRT management cannot be seen to be soft on this matter - best thing to do is to sack those who didn't turn up for work and then negotiate with rest for pay etc.
will be a disaster if all the monkeys start following suit and not turn up for work. The message must be clear: if u are not happy abt pay, u can negotiate; if u dun succeed, u can resign.
i still remember when i was working in france, there was a day where 70% of the public transport was down due to workers strikes...if this happens to singapore, investors confidence will be shaken big time.

SINGAPORE: Public transport provider SMRT said that it is in talks with its bus drivers who refused to go to work on Monday.
A spokesman for SMRT said 102 of the bus drivers involved were from China and their service leaders are currently in talks with SMRT management.
SMRT said earlier reports that nearly 200 bus drivers were involved were incorrect.
Channel NewsAsia understands that the bus drivers had stayed away from work as a result of unhappiness over their pay.
SMRT added that the relevant authorities have already been informed about the situation.

Just ponder whether MPs, Minsiters can stay away from their "jobs" if money not enough? i think it will never happen because they always pay themselves 1st before paying you the citizens.
