There was a documentary on rail drivers in Japan under ultra high stress because they need to stick strictly to arrival schedule, or face harsh punishments. A fatal train accident resulted, think is the Amagasaki rail accident which resulted in 106 death.

SMRT to be fined record $5.4 mil for July 7 breakdown
SINGAPORE (Sept 23): The Land Transport Authority says it is imposing a fine of $5.4 million on transport operator SMRT for the system-wide disruption on the North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL) on July 7.

Chew Men Leong, Chief Executive of LTA, says: “After a full and comprehensive investigation, LTA concludes that the disruption is due to maintenance lapses by SMRT. LTA hence intends to impose a high financial penalty on SMRT in light of the seriousness of the incident, and given that several hundred thousands of train commuters, as well as motorists and bus commuters, were inconvenienced by this disruption. We require SMRT to review and improve their maintenance regime to prevent future occurrences.”

This is the highest financial penalty imposed on an operator since the two disruptions in December 2011, which affected about 221,000 commuters and for which SMRT was fined $2 million.

The fine will go to the Public Transport Fund to help needy families with their public transport expenditures.

The competition in human resources, will intensify over time, when more players getting into the market. Granted, the newly contracted bus service fee will be adjusted for changes in wage level, but shouldn't on cost increased due to competition.

The standard of news reporting by SPH reporters is substandard.
The basic questions:
Who
What
When
How
Where
Why

is seldom followed... and there is poor sequencing.
( not to mention careful placement of certain words to
colour certain situations in order to favour or to stain )

"I KEEP six honest serving-men
(They taught me all I knew);
Their names are What and Why and When
And How and Where and Who...."
