Doubt NK has much trouble, pretty sure they have amassed a lot of provisions and ready to be isolated for a few years before fully developing nuclear arsenal like pakistan.
They have plenty of uranium, which will provide lots of cheap energy and byproducts for developing nuclear arms which they can later sell for big $$. I dun see how such a state would run into energy problems.

200 Died in North Korea Nuclear Test Site Accident: Reports
By David Tweed
November 1, 2017, 8:54 AM GMT+8 Updated on November 1, 2017, 9:45 AM GMT+8
About 200 people may have died when tunnels collapsed at a North Korean nuclear test site in October, TV Asahi reported, citing unidentified people familiar with North Korean matters.
Kim Jong Un’s regime detonated an underground nuclear device near the Punggye-ri site in northeast North Korea on Sept. 3, setting off an earthquake with a magnitude of about 6.3 that was felt as far away as China. About 100 people got caught in a collapsed tunnel around Oct. 10, while the others were trapped in a further collapse during a rescue attempt, TV Asahi said.
China warned North Korea on Sept. 20 that further nuclear tests could blow the top off a mountain and spark a potential catastrophic collapse at the site, the South China Morning Post reported Oct. 28. Researchers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Geology and Geophysics briefed a North Korean delegation in Beijing about the threat, the paper said, citing senior Chinese geologist Zhai Mingguo.

North Korea Calls Hotline to South for the First Time in Two Years
By Kanga Kong and Jihye Lee
January 3, 2018, 4:07 PM GMT+8 Updated on January 3, 2018, 7:09 PM GMT+8
North Korea contacted authorities in Seoul over a hotline for the first time in about two years, paving the way for a thaw during the Winter Olympics despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s fresh taunts at Kim Jong Un.
Officials from both countries spoke several times Wednesday to conduct technical checks before agreeing to stop for the day, according to Lee Yeon-du, an official with South Korea’s Unification Ministry. President Moon Jae-in has proposed holding talks Jan. 9 at the border village of Panmunjom, which would be the first formal gathering between the two sides since 2015.
The move shows further progress after Kim called for improved relations with South Korea in a New Year’s Day address. Tensions over North Korea’s nuclear program had threatened to hang over the Games in Pyeongchang, a city about 50 miles (80 kilometers) from the border dividing the Korean Peninsula.

North Korea Accepts South’s Proposal for Talks Next Week
By Kanga Kong
January 5, 2018, 9:45 AM GMT+8 Updated on January 5, 2018, 5:23 PM GMT+8
North Korea accepted a proposal to hold talks with South Korea on Tuesday, reducing tensions as President Moon Jae-in’s government prepared to host the Winter Olympics next month.
The agenda would include North Korea’s offer to send a delegation to the Games, as well as overall inter-Korean relations, South Korea’s Unification Ministry spokesman, Baik Tae Hyun, told reporters Friday. Preparations for the meeting at a border village -- what would be the first formal gathering between the two sides since 2015 -- would be done via letters, he said.
U.S. President Donald Trump endorsed the talks Thursday, calling them a “good thing” while agreeing to delay military exercises until after the Games. During a 30-minute phone call, Moon assured Trump that his government would coordinate with the U.S. on the talks.

Trump accepts offer to meet Kim Jong Un
By Jeremy Diamond and Euan McKirdy, CNN
Updated 0440 GMT (1240 HKT) March 9, 2018
(CNN)President Donald Trump has agreed to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, the White House announced, setting the scene for a historic and unprecedented encounter.
The meeting, which would be the first between a sitting US president and a North Korean leader, will happen by May, according to South Korea's national security adviser, Chung Eui-yong, who delivered the invitation to Trump after a visit by his delegation to Pyongyang earlier this week.
The stunning announcement is the culmination of a diplomatic whirlwind that began with the invitation of a North Korean delegation to the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Trump's decision to meet Kim, after a year in which the two have repeatedly traded insults, is a remarkable breakthrough -- albeit one with uncertain consequences

China says North Korea pledges denuclearization during friendly visit
Ben Blanchard, Joyce Lee
March 28, 2018
BEIJING/SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has pledged to denuclearize and meet U.S. officials, China said on Wednesday after an historic meeting with President Xi Jinping, who promised China would uphold its friendship with its isolated neighbor.
After two days of speculation, China and North Korea both confirmed that Kim had visited Beijing and met Xi during what China’s Foreign Ministry called an unofficial visit to China from Sunday to Wednesday.
The China visit was Kim’s first known trip outside North Korea since he assumed power in 2011 and is believed by analysts to serve as preparation for upcoming summits with South Korea and the United States.

North and South Korea reportedly set to announce official end to war
Sam Meredith
Published April 17, 2018
North and South Korea are in talks to announce a permanent end to the officially declared military conflict between the two countries, daily newspaper Munhwa Ilbo reported Tuesday, citing an unnamed South Korean official.
Ahead of a summit next week between North Korean premier Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in, lawmakers from the neighboring states were thought to be negotiating the details of a joint statement that could outline an end to the confrontation.
Kim and Moon could also discuss returning the heavily-fortified demilitarized zone separating them to its original state, the newspaper said.
Pyongyang and Seoul have technically been at war since the 1950-1953 Korean conflict ended with a truce — and not a peace treaty. Geopolitical tensions have occasionally flared up since the armistice, although to date both countries have managed to avoid another devastating conflict.

North Korea suspends talks with South Korea due to drills North Korea suspends talks with South Korea due to drills

North Korea abruptly canceled talks with South Korea scheduled for Wednesday and threatened to walk away from talks with the U.S., according to media reports.
North Korea's state-run Central News Agency said the ongoing joint military drills between the U.S. and South Korea are a "provocation" and a preparation for an invasion, according to a Reuters report that cites South Korean news outlet Yonhap.
South Korea's Unification Ministry said it received a fax Wednesday from the head of the North Korean delegation for the high-level talks, who said his country is "indefinitely canceling the planned high-level inter-Korean talks" due to the military exercises.
"Accordingly, the scheduled inter-Korean high-level talks will not happen today and [the South Korean] government's response will be announced after discussion among the related ministries," the Unification Ministry said.
