CONSTRUCTION firm OKP Holdings on Monday reported that its second quarter net profit doubled to S$4.95 million from a year ago, on the back of strong growth in revenue from its maintenance segment.

For the three months as at end June, revenue came in at S$34.4 million, up 43.2 per cent year on year. This was due mainly to growth in its core business segments - construction and maintenance.

"The increase in revenue from both segments was due mainly to some of the projects progressing to a more active phase during the second quarter ended June 30, 2017," the group said on Monday in filings to the Singapore Exchange.

No mention was made of possible financial impacts from the accident.

I think no mention because they also don't really know yet.
They won't know the results of the investigation, and after that, whether there'd be any punitive actions taken against them and the extent of it.
We'd only have a hint of the impact when Q3 results come out.

What would be the worst case scenario due to the accident?

1. Fine ... max fine?
2. Insurance cover will mitigate some lost.
3. Affect future bid score

Anyone knows?

not so simple, the project collapsed and life is lost, this is major case.
hope government takes a long hard look at OKP and their subcontractors.
1) Try NOT to LOSE money!
2) Do NOT SELL in BEAR, BUY-BUY-BUY! invest in managements/companies that does the same!
3) CASH in hand is KING in BEAR!
4) In BULL, SELL-SELL-SELL!

Contractor in fatal viaduct collapse won bid with low safety score, lowest tender price: MOT

... But Mr Tan noted that OKP has now been placed under the Business Under Surveillance programme after the viaduct collapse, owing to 2016 enhancements which expand the criteria to immediately include any company with a stop-work order or any number of fatalities.

“To exit from (the programme), companies need to demonstrate to MOM that they have taken remedial steps to improve its WSH performance,” he said. “This includes conducting refresher training for all workers on any unsafe practices found. On average, this process takes at least one year.

... So, OKP will have hard time to bid for new project?

Nevertheless, I think the findings will be announce in October 2017 and we will able to know the fine and implication to OKP future projects.
Just have to wait and see.

OKP proposes to purchases a AUD$43m office block in Perth CBD. This is OKP's first overseas property investment, and one that dwarf its existing portfolio of investment property in Singapore worth S$7.3m.

Is management acting in anticipation of the impact on its core business?

Just sharing an article of OKP as asset play.

The article does have its points. But there are some parts written in very poor taste, particularly because a) the author claims to own shares in OKP, and b) the website is in the business of selling investment courses.

OKP does look undervalued on its balance sheet. But if consideration is made to its business, future profitability, and future dividends, the situation become more nuanced.

Specifically, OKP's core construction business has not been performing for the 2 years. OKP's latest 6 months earnings is merely $1.6m. Stripping out the rental revenue from its Australian office, net profit is only borderline positive, or borderline negative. Why has profits been falling since the accident? The company has not given specific reasons for this.

The question of whether OKP's construction business can operate profitably is an important question for a long-term investor, because that is the gem of the company. If the construction business cannot turn a profit, it is not likely that investors can expect a meaningful amount of dividends to be forthcoming, or sustainable.

Alright, so the author may perhaps be somewhat parochial in his approach, which is fine.

But then the author states that OKP's outstanding order book of $282m will provide it with "two more years of earnings combined."

Perhaps, the author, who "cannot claim credit for the foundation of my [sic] ability to invest," does not understand what earnings are.

Or, maybe it was a typo. But then in its concluding remarks, the author reiterated his point that, "the market is basically telling you that the company is going to EARN $282.6 million but is only worth….$61 million?"

"Unless you’re saying OKP is losing more than $282.6 million to make $282.6 million, this is utterly senseless and inconceivable."

I'm not sure if the author is genuinely ignorant of the difference between order book, revenue, and earnings. Or whether he is being mischievous/misleading, causing prospective investors to over-estimate the value of OKP.

In either case, I think their credibility as investment educators is questionable. Why pay to learn from people who are likely to be either ignorant or misleading, which may result in even bigger losses when erroneous ideas are put into practice? Or be induced to buy shares that your very 'teachers' are possibly trying to sell you?

Not worth time to study OKP for the time being. OKP core biz construction is a gone case.
