Any suggestions to analyze the data above?

This group "Government / Education / Student / Non-Profit / Retirees" a bit unfit.

Thank you fellow Valuebuddies members for such response. I didnt expected it to go quite well. Keep voting if you have not done so.
Now I would like to check is everyone ok to open this survey public? This means we will know who's working in which industry. This way we will be able to understand each other better. If there are no objections received by 30th January 2011, I will request Cyclone to set this poll to public. Any objections please PM me or Cyclone or simply post here! Thanks. Anyway, one of the reason I set up this poll is so that I want to understand whether some of the rumours/ insider news that have been mentioned in the forum discussion are with malicious intent. As this is an open forum afterall, better understanding of the members profile will aid our decision making and trust in fellow's member integrity. The other option is for Cyclone to help to tabulate some statistics of post count vs industry. This may provide some information on expertise shared in this forum.

What I would suggest is that a thread can be created in Introduction for anyone so inclined to reveal which industry he is working in. Whereas those who prefer the information to remain private can choose not to post/reply in that thread. Anyone can easily says he works in Industry A when in fact he does not. I do not have to work in the banking industry to post a rumours about it. As far as forum interaction is concern, you will be wise to adhere to the Fox Mulder school of 'Trust No One'; regardless of how much integrity he may conduct himself in this (or any other) forums. Just my thoughts on the issues. Cheers!

I had the same idea for those who are willing to share their occupation on another thread as I woke up only this morning. Late night, brain cant function well. I agree with your point on the limitation of how the poll can help to justify rumour posting and integrity. I was just hoping it might just provide some help for individuals to think about. From the wide variety of members from different industries as shown from the results of the poll, it is difficult to further derive informational value unless we know who belongs under which industry. Hope you understand where I am coming from. Cheers too.

If poll is opened to public..........then play is open up to phantom votes.........It means your data is open to manipulation.......
Restrict by IP address? Not sure about technical aspects.........

Personally, given the limitations of the poll as implemented by the forum software, I don't think it serves any real value. As others have pointed out, 10 choices is too few, and the groupings are also arbitrary. Even if everyone answered truthfully, so what? It's not going to change the quality of postings.
Perhaps the moderators should kill the poll. |
