*EVERYTHING IS THE BEST ARRANGEMENT*

There comes a time in our life, when we find the cold freezing rain of life is beyond endurance, we should learn Buddhism, practise patience under humiliation, dedicate ourselves to progress, and last but not least, wait on.  Life is like a giant tree sheltering us from the storm.  As long as we put in our best effort, success will come to us slowly but surely.  We may not see immediate return; however, with a little patience, oftentimes it will come to us when we least expect it.

When we are faced with adversities, when everything seems to go against us - our relationship, job, career, and our shattered dreams; when we are in total desperation, try seeing things from another perspective.  Everything is the best arrangement.  Disaster and happiness are twins.  Behind every disaster, there is a drop of happiness, and there is always a hidden side of happiness where disaster may just be on the horizon.

*KNOWING WHEN NOT TO ACT, YOU CAN LIVE YOUR TRUE SELF*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Buddhist practitioners need to understand that all things on earth are unperturbed. As long as the heart stays unchanged, all things will stay put. No matter what, you are still that kind to others, and likewise, others remain as kind to you.

Sitting is Zen, walking is Zen, to see a world in a flower and the Buddha in a leaf. What does it mean?

It says that, you will gain wisdom even while sitting, standing and going about your task, and you are in meditative concentration in whatever you do. As there is such a world in your heart, there is such a practice place. In everything you do, you will do it as if you are a Buddha performing the task. This is what “to see the Buddha in a leaf” means.

There is a poet who says, “Flowers will bloom when spring arrives, leaves will wither when autumn comes”. What does it mean? When spring comes, flowers will naturally turn fresh - what a sight to behold! When autumn comes, leaves will fall and wither.

There is a saying, “Our heart will be at ease when we have immense wisdom” to depict that while leaves will all change in spring or autumn, but the immense wisdom within our heart, that is, our heart of wisdom will always be at ease, meaning it will remain in perpetuity and will never change.

I hope all of you can take a leaf out of this saying, “Your body will be natural if you speak less and remain calm” – be a person of few words and remain calm and composed in your actions, only then your whole body and life will become natural.

Do not let your heart be intrigued by anything that you see and never react hastily as and when something crops up. Otherwise, others will slowly find that you are a person, who can’t sit and stand still, one who is unable to remain calm and composed.

SPEND YOUR TIME WISELY

A wise person will always use his spare time to work on his own future. For example, we should spend every bit of spare time we’ve got reciting sutras to protect ourselves from getting sick in the future, just as we spend our spare time exercising to stay healthy.

To acquire sustainable spiritual strength and success, we must use all our time to do what is necessary.

In every era, there are a great number of Bodhisattvas who have succeeded in their cultivation. The secret to their success is, when other people are indulging themselves in world enjoyments, they are quietly cultivating themselves, helping people realise the importance of spirituality, and giving a hand to those in need. When other people still cannot see through the true face of the world, those who want to be Bodhisattvas have already gained insights into the true meaning of life. Therefore, when others begin to suffer and think it is about time to start searching for what truly matters in life, those aspirers have already succeeded in their cultivation, becoming Bodhisattvas!

*THE MOST MIRACULOUS QUOTE IN THE WORLD*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Once upon a time, there was a king who was eagerly in search of a quote that could make a happy person sad and a sad person happy. Unfortunately, it was a quest that yielded him no results.

One fine day, the king dreamed of a sage, who passed on to him a word of advice, which was exactly what he had long yearned for. It is the most miraculous quote in the world: ‘All things in the world will pass’.

Buddhist practitioners must understand that irrespective of the good and bad things in life, all your possessions - be it fame, status and wealth - will never stay unchanged for an eternity. Those moments of anguish and failure will too, be over. One should not be overjoyed when in possession of something because it will not be yours in perpetuity.

As Buddhist practitioners, we should comprehend the meaning of impermanence and the law of causation. Life is both a course of events and state of affairs, it is neither a bearing nor the ultimate terminal of disembarkation.

On this note, each one of you must remember to consume two tablets of antidote: Take the tablet of contentment in the morning, and the tablet of gratitude at night.

*THE MEANING OF “TO LISTEN, CONTEMPLATE AND PRACTISE”*

Master Jun Hong Lu: “To Listen, Contemplate and Practise" means to listen to the dharma, contemplate the dharma teachings, and put the teachings into practice.

That is to transform what you listen into the right thoughts and then, you start to put what you learn into cultivating your mind. If you didn’t hear about the teachings, how would you be able to start to practise them? Now that you have started your spiritual cultivation journey with Guan Yin Citta because you heard about it in the past.

*LETTING GO OF NEGATIVE ENERGY*

Master Jun Hong Lu: It’s a hard truth that this world is filled with suffering. When you are in agony, tell yourself the pain will not last forever, as it diminishes as time passes. Therefore, do not let agony and aggravation anchor themselves in your heart. If you store all of your hatred, jealousy, aggravations, and other negative energies in your heart over an extended period of time, it inflicts suffering upon your mind and soul. It’s similar to computer memory. When the memory is full, it can cause the computer to crash.

*BEING UNPERTURBED IS TO LET NATURE TAKE ITS COURSE*

Master Jun Hong Lu:
To be unmoved in any given situation is a quality of a broad-minded person. We should not change when we encounter something; neither should be overly anxious. What’s the big deal? Since we have come to this world, we have to be mentally prepared for birth, ageing, sickness, death, having to part with our loved ones….

There are The Eight Sufferings in life - but that’s just an outline, there are hundreds kinds of other distresses in this world.

There are those who are deeply in love but are forced to be separated; no one is able to escape the clutches of birth, ageing, sickness and death; we are born alone, and no one will accompany us when we die, having to depart this world all alone. Think about it, that is all to this world. What is there for us to grasp at?

ANY SEED SOWN WILL NOT GERMINATE INSTANTLY

When you treat someone well, they may not be quick to requite; when you pray to Bodhisattva, and perform recitation, your health may not improve immediately. When this happens, many may start to complain that Bodhisattva is inefficacious.

Please remember, any seed sown will not germinate instantly. When we treat others well but our kindness is not being reciprocated, misunderstandings will develop and wrong decisions will be made, which will end up wrecking a harmonious relationship. Compassion is the best antidote. Have faith in others and be thankful. Only then you will experience true contentment and bliss.
