*VIRTUES TO HOLD IN OUR HEARTS*

Master Jun Hong Lu:
Kindness is the foundation for a heart of compassion.
Repentance is the only route towards change in a person.
Contrition is the only way for one to make headway.
Diligence is the only means for one to succeed.
Gratitude is the only way to develop contentment.

*THE SECRET TO LIFE*

Master Jun Hong Lu: We live in a complex society surrounded by impenetrable hearts of others, worries that we simply cannot let go, experiencing incessant cycles of love and hate. We journey on a seemingly unending and unconquerable road filled with frustrations, dashed hopes and helplessness. We are unable to forget about our past, be free from the hectic rush of the present, or vision a future. At the end of the day, we can never prophecy the day that we will disappear. This is life.

Hence, regardless of how busy or tired you are, I urge this of all of you -- never forget to learn Buddhism and cultivate spiritually.

Happiness in the human realm is temporary. However, suffering in the human realm is temporary too. As Buddhist practitioners, always remember that doing good and accruing merits is the foundation of being human. After all, only with diligence can we obtain the sweetness that comes after bitterness; only with patience under humiliation can we abandon suffering to obtain happiness; only with abiding by the precepts can we enjoy peace and prosperity; and only with Buddha’s kindness can we transcend the cycle of rebirth.

*LETTING GO OF NEGATIVE ENERGY*

Master Jun Hong Lu: It’s hard truth that this world is filled with sufferings. When you are in agony, tell yourself that the pain will not last forever, as it will diminish as time goes by. Therefore, do not anchor agony and vexation in your heart. If you keep storing all your hatred, jealousy, vexations and other negative energy in your heart for an extended period of time, it will inflict upon your mind and soul; just like how a computer will crash.

*WHAT CAN YOU BUY WITH MONEY?*

[emoji843]Money can buy you a bed; but it can’t buy you a good night sleep

[emoji843]Money can buy you jewellery; but it can't buy you beauty

[emoji843]Money can buy you a house; but it can’t buy you a harmonious family

[emoji843]Money can buy you entertainment; but it can't buy you happiness

[emoji843]Money can buy you food; but it can’t buy you your appetite

[emoji843]Money can buy you flattering words from others; but it can’t buy you their loyalty

[emoji843]Money can buy you others’ submission; but it can’t buy you their respect

[emoji843]Money can buy you lust; but it can’t buy you love

*MAINTAIN YOUR INNER TRANQUILITY TO BE WISE*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Buddhism teaches us that we must maintain peace and serenity within our minds. As seen from the Buddhist saying, 'cultivate your mind and wisdom with calmness', a tranquil person will surely be wise. Take a look around - you will find many leaders and officers who always appear calm and they are the wise ones.

*DO GOOD DEEDS TO ACCUMULATE MERITS AND VIRTUES*

Master Jun Hong Lu: We sorely lack self-awareness. This is highlighted by how we strive to fulfill our desires and obtain pleasures of the human realm often at the expense of others. As Buddhist practitioners, we must not be deluded by material gains — doing good deeds to accumulating merits and virtues is paramount.

*SHOW GRATITUDE TO THOSE WHO HAVE HELPED US, SHOW FORGIVENESS TO THOSE WHO HAVE HURT US*

Master Jun Hong Lu: In the hustle and bustle of mundane life, troubles are incessant. A Buddhist practitioner would thus find it wise to always show gratitude towards those who have helped us and show forgiveness towards those who have hurt us. This is because these people make us stronger.

*DO NOT PURSUE FAME AND MATERIAL WEALTH*

Master Jun Hong Lu: As a Buddhist practitioner, we should not pursue worldly desires like fame, material wealth and pleasure of enjoyment. Think about it, if you bite into a rotten apple plucked from a tree, you will soon realize the change in taste.
Every gain in this elusive and transient life is nothing but suffering. Hence, to avoid the pain of it being taken away from us is to let go of our tight grip onto any cause.
This elusive and transient life is world apart from its reality; just like a filthy place in the human realm can never be clean and taintless.

*CRITICISE AND YOU SHALL BE CRITICISED*

Master Jun Hong Lu:
The more people that you dislike,
the more you will be disliked by others;
Just like how an overly critical person will always find himself to be the common target of criticisms.

*DO NOT TAKE THINGS FOR GRANTED*

Master Jun Hong Lu: Even a strong predestined relationship cannot be sustained if we are hasty and superficial; even the most profound love will still deserve to be cherished.

When others are willing to act naive for us, please remember, there is no absolute fool in this world. We are forgiven, only because they do not wish to lose us.

Stay true, and we will be able to savour the love; be appreciative as only then the love will endure.
