*WHY IT IS NOT ADVISABLE FOR LAYPERSON TO RECITE CERTAIN MAJOR SUTRAS/SCRIPTURES?*

Caller: Master, I suddenly recalled the fact that you used to forbid us from reciting certain major sutras/scriptures previously. Now, I understand its rationale. Undeniably some of these sutras/scriptures are really good and are formidable. However, it could be that, for laypersons like us, we have more vexations and we do not have a high state of mind, hence we are not able to harness this level of energy.

Master Jun Hong Lu: That’s right.

Caller: As these sutras/scriptures are so formidable, let's say a person commits the same mistake as he did before, it will give rise to major karmic obstacles now.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Indeed. There are things that I cannot be too forthright in mentioning to all of you; in an effort to protect you. Many people said, “Master, these sutras/scriptures are really good and formidable”. Would you dare recite? You must remember, you are different from the monks and nuns. The latter are the ones with very little distracting thoughts, while you are leading a life at home and even consuming non-vegetarian food! As such, when the retribution comes, it will be so extreme that at times, it supersedes the benefit that you may gain. Once that happens, you are doomed, that’s the end! Do you understand?

*THE EFFECT OF RECITING THE EIGHTY-EIGHT BUDDHAS GREAT REPENTANCE SUTRA DEPENDS ON YOUR OWN HEART; RECITING AND MOVING IN CIRCULAR MOTIONS AROUND BODHISATTVA IN A CLOCKWISE DIRECTION*

Caller: When we recite the *Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance* Sutra, is there any difference in effect between nodding our heads quickly and not nodding our heads when we are kneeling?

Master Jun Hong Lu: It all depends on your heart. Be it be kneeling down or nodding your head while standing, they are both inefficacious if you do not put your heart into it.

Caller: If we worry that we may feel drowsy while reciting the *Eighty-eight Buddhas Great Repentance* Sutra, can we move around the house as though we are circumambulating the statues of Buddha in a clock-wise direction?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, you can but do it in a clock-wise direction.

DHARMA PRACTICE IS THE WAY TO END SUFFERING
Spiritual relief can only be achieved when one is free from suffering. When a person starts cultivating through practice of Dharma, they will be able to overcome their suffering gradually and will begin to feel that they are progressing consistently with incremental elimination of karmic debts over time. By maintaining such a positive mind set, they will be able to progress in their cultivation for sure.
The wonder of practising Buddhism is that it helps to stop you from re-visiting the painful past and prevents you from dwelling on those troubles indefinitely. Most importantly, it frees you from suffering. By taking the first step, you have already relieved yourself partially from suffering and progressed in your state of mind.
When two people are engulfed in an argument, they lose their sense of rationality. You are only able to analyse the situation objectively if you are not involved in the argument. As an independent third party who finds the argument uncalled for, you should try to pacify them.
At this juncture, Master would like to share some words of wisdom with you. To liberate yourself from worries, you have to understand the true meaning of life and learn to let go of all undesirable things and people around you. Once you are able to let go, you will be able discard the burden that weighs you down forever.
Today, you will attain immeasurable Dharma joy if you understand the true meaning of life, cultivate your mind through practice of Dharma, performing life liberations and making vows.

*HOW TO HANDLE OTHERS’ SHORTCOMINGS*

Question: As our Buddhist learning and practice deepen, we will tend to discover more and more shortcomings on ourselves and on others. While we work hard to overcome our own shortcomings, however, noticing the shortcomings of others would only make us feel that they are not as kind as we thought they were. Unconsciously, we will start to perceive them pessimistically and may even result in the development of contentious relationships. Master, may I ask if this shows that our cultivation has strayed? How can we restrain and overcome such a critical mentality of ours towards others?

Answer: When you perform recitation of scriptures diligently, at a certain point of time, your state of mind will be elevated and you will, indeed start to notice many shortcomings of others. Just like me, the minute I meet someone, I can see through all their shortcomings. However, you are a Bodhisattva, a Buddhist cultivator. You have to love the person despite their faults. Just like a father or a mother who sees the faults of his child, you will have to continue to help the child to allow him to progress and not to despise him. This should be the mentality. Only through this, your sense of equanimity will arise. They are like your brothers and sisters. “It is alright that they have some faults. I have my own sets of faults too in the past. Now that I have made some improvement, all the more I should help him overcome his faults too. Only then all of us will be free of faults.”

USING WISDOM AND ADOPTING INGENIOUS APPROACHES TO HELPING PEOPLE
As winter approaches, many people are saying, “I would like to save people, but I’m worried that they might not believe in Buddhist teachings, or he is wicked. Instead of saving him, I might bear the consequences of his karmic debts and land myself in deep water.”
I would like to tell everyone this story that happened during a cold winter day.
A Buddhist monk and his disciple found a snake stiff and frozen with cold, lying beside the road. The monk would have liked to save the snake, but was stopped by his disciple who said, “Master, have you forgotten the story of the Farmer and the Snake? The monk replied, “Of course not.” “Then why do you still want to save it?” asked his disciple. The monk answered, “There are many ways to save the snake. I may not use the same way as the farmer did. I don’t necessarily have to put the snake in my arms in order to save it.” Soon after, the monk picked up some firewood and lit a fire beside the road, and the snake was gradually revived by the warmth. The monk said, “There are always multiple ways to perform good deeds. The same applies to how we introduce Buddhism to people, we have to adopt diversified methods for helping people.”
When we encounter an evil person, we should not hold ourselves back from doing good deeds for fear of bearing negative consequences. As Buddhist practitioners, we should instead choose our approach to introducing Buddhist teachings to all sentient beings wisely, so that we will not be penalised for our kind-heartedness. This is what the miraculous Dharma is about; an ingenious approach. It is Wisdom that enables us to help more people to attain enlightenment.

《末法时期不吃素得怪病的人会越来越多》

男听众:师父,这样想起来,我们末法时期,再不吃素,是不是得癌症的会越来越多啊?

台长答:越来越多。现在很多科学家的报告当中,很多生物,动物,海里的生物,因为人家乱扔垃圾塑料,那些塑料吃了之后动物都会死掉,所以在我们澳大利亚不许扔塑料的东西在河里。鱼吃了这些东西跟肉长在一起,现在澳洲做过一个检验,几乎有50%以上的鱼都有塑料。所以人吃了鱼之后,一般的人一生可以有8000多克塑料在身上。所以很多人生各种各样怪病,其实就是吃了鱼,鱼吃什么你就吃什么,鱼吃塑料你也吃塑料。所以人吃塑料,也有聚氯乙烯什么,也是会有毒的。猪吃什么的?猪吃最脏最臭的东西,它长出来的肉你吃了,那你也是最脏最臭的。它把细菌吃进去,那你不就也把细菌吃进去了吗?(对,现在搞养殖全都是用那些刺激性的药物,很快就长大了)对啊,疯牛症、禽流感不都是动物身上来的吗?(还有口蹄疫,真的都是动物身上来的)对啊(师父,现在的人残忍得都吃猴子的猴脑)他以后报应很厉害的,他死的时候会痛不欲生,而且很快脑子里会长东西。

*WHY SOME OF THE NEW BUDDHIST CULTIVATORS FEEL FRIGHTENED WHEN LISTENING TO THE TOTEM PROGRAM AT NIGHT, FEEL CHILLED WHEN STARTED TO PERFORM RECITATION?*

Caller: I have helped many people to start practicing Dharma. Among them, some felt exceptionally frightened when they listen to totem program at night; while others felt chilled all over their bodies when they first attempt to perform recitations, thus, causing them to flinch from recitations. We tried to explain to them that it is due to karmic obstacles, but it seemed our energy level and power of persuasion are not strong enough to convince them. Master Lu, could you please advise them further on this matter?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Such circumstances occurred because there are foreign spirits on the body of the new Buddhist friends. Once there are foreign spirits, they will first feel chilled, and secondly, they will be scared upon hearing voices with positive energy. Those with spirits on their body reacted that way because spirits are afraid of human beings, don't you know?

Caller: Yes, this had caused them to stop performing recitation as they experienced sense of fright once they start to recite.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Let me pose a question for you to ask them; if you don’t pay a visit to the hospital, you won’t know that you are unwell, can you deny the fact that you are ill? You may ask them, why whenever they go to hospital for health assessments, they will be diagnosed with all sorts of illnesses, but remained in pink of health if they do not make the trip to the hospital? Do you think they are ill? Does it mean that if they do not visit the hospital, they will be given a clean bill of health? Isn’t this plugging one’s ears while stealing a bell?
