We should take refuge in the Triple Gem of our own nature - the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha. We take refuge in our innate Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha: to have the Buddha in our minds, to practise the Dharma in our daily life, and to emulate the Sangha by observing the precepts.
~ Excerpt from 《Words of Wisdom》(1)

*HOW TO DO SELF-REFLECTION?*
Caller: How do we share with fellow practitioners on initiating self-reflection and self-check regularly in their daily life? This happened to be something I wish to learn too, to avoid inflation of ego and going astray.
Master Jun Hong Lu: How do we do self-reflection? It is very simple. Let me ask you, how do we maintain our self-hygiene? You wash your face and brush your teeth every morning, don’t you? The same goes, we should do regular self-reflection. Every day before you offer incense and perform recitation of scriptures, do a personal self-reflection: Did I do any wrong today? Was I overcome by greed today? Was I ignorant today? Did I have any grievances today? Did I hurt anyone today? Was I able to practise endurance of humiliation today…think about all these. Have I emulated Bodhisattva today? This is what self-reflection is all about. Do it twice a day, it is the same principle as saying a prayer or repenting in many western religions.

*Ching Ming (Tomb-sweeping) Festival*
2011-10-24
Q053: Master Lu, Ching Ming Festival is approaching and I plan to visit the cemetery. Can I burn Little Houses there? Which sutra or mantra should I recite while I am there? Also, is there anything else that I should be aware of? Thank you.

*A VERY IMPORTANT ETHIC TO OBSERVE*
Many people think that moral ethic is about aiding others and performing good deeds. However, it is not so. Please remember, as human, it is very important to know that “Forbearance is a Moral Ethic”. It means a person who is forbearing, is a person with moral ethics.
For example, there are two persons quarreling on the street. One party is berating, while the other did not retaliate, but and just stand at the side and keep smiling back politely. Bystanders will surely say that the latter is someone with virtue, am I right? The same applies to couples who quarrel. The husband is scolding, while his wife just kept quiet and smiled politely saying, “I am sorry.” Which of these two persons you think is virtuous? If your boss is reprimanding you, and you go, “I’m sorry, I will do a better job next time”. Do you think you will be fired?
A person with forbearance is a virtuous person. He is a person with wisdom. Please remember, a person who gets angry frequently, is a person who lacks wisdom.

*AVOID BEING JUDGEMENTAL ON FOUR ASPECTS*
Master Jun Hong Lu, “I want you to learn that in Dharma practice and life, there are 4 things that we should not pass judgement on:
Firstly, do not judge the good or bad of others, as it does not have any effect on your life.
Secondly, do not judge the morality and conduct of others, as you are not necessarily more noble than them.
Thirdly, do not judge other’s family, as it will affect your equanimity.
Fourthly, do not judge those whom you look down upon, not even those whom you despised most, as you will become haughty and arrogant; consequently turning you into the most hated person."

*PERFORM MORE RECITATIONS BEFORE CHING MING FESTIVAL, PRAY TO GUAN YIN BODHISATTVA FOR BLESSING PRIOR TO ANY MAJOR PROCEEDINGS*
Master Jun Hong Lu: Ching Ming (Tomb sweeping) festival is just around the corner; I hope everyone will take extra precautions in this period. Please perform more recitations prior to the festival. For the most part, in memory of the deceased, you must offer more _Little Houses_ to them. On top of that, please be particularly cautious yourself; it is best that you pray to Guan Yin Bodhisattva for blessings prior to any major proceedings. I hope everyone will stay safe throughout the period prior and after Ching Ming.

*MESSAGES FROM BODHISATTVA THROUGH DREAMS*
Caller: Master, if Bodhisattva wishes to send us messages through our dreams, when will it normally take place?
Master Jun Hong Lu: To be accurate, it will be between 5am and 8am.
Caller: If during this timing, we are not asleep, or we did not receive these messages, would Bodhisattva send the messages through our dreams again on the second or third day?
Master Jun Hong Lu: That’s tough. If you fail to receive such messages, then perhaps the messages will be sent to you through others.
