WEDDING AND BURIAL DAYS: BEST TO CHOOSE EVEN AND ODD NUMBERED DATES RESPECTIVELY
Caller: From a metaphysical perspective, is it true that wedding and burial dates should be on even numbered dates on the solar calendar?
Master Jun Hong Lu: A wedding is best held on dates with even numbers, whereas burials should be performed on dates with odd numbers.

OLD CLOTHES ARE TO BE PUT ASIDE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE BEING GIVEN TO OTHERS
Caller: Should we want to give away our old clothes to the underprivileged in the countryside, is it true that if we “pray” to the clothes three times, then they will have no connection to us anymore?
Master Jun Hong Lu: (Laughs) That is quite true. However, it is not about “praying” to the clothes. Please do not do that because, should there be any foreign spirits attached to them, it will then spell trouble. The best way is to put these clothes aside for a year or more than half a year. After which you can give them away. By then, your “energy field” will not be attached to them anymore. Clothes that are worn often will have the wearer’s “energy field”. However, once it has been put aside for a period of time, it will lose said “energy field”. By then it is perfectly fine to give them away.

CRITERIA TO ASSESS A DREAM: A TEST OF PRACTISING VEGETARIANISM
Caller: What are the criteria that will determine if a vegetarian fails the test in his dreams? For example, in the dream there was a thought of them wanting to take meat but they woke up before consuming it.
Master Jun Hong Lu: This is not good; they did not pass the Dream Test. If they have taken the meat unknowingly and spat it out in his dream, then they have passed the Dream Test.
Caller: Although they have thought of taking meat, but did not take it because of various reasons. Is this considered as having passed the Dream Test?
Master Jun Hong Lu: They still did not pass the test because their mind was still thinking about it and that is bad. Ha-ha.

ABSENCE OF RESENTMENT IN A TRUE BUDDHIST PRACTITIONER
Caller: I am one of Master Lu’s followers. However, I still harbour feelings of resentment and vengeance within every time I encounter a difficult situation. Why is this so?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Everything happens as a result of karma. A true Buddhist practitioner is one who is compassionate and able to forget the shortcomings of others. If you are compassionate, you should not hate others. If you still harbour thoughts of resentment and vengeance, it shows that you are still lacking in your cultivation. We can only try our best to advise people who we have lower expectations of, not to hate others.
Resentment cannot resolve your problems but will only hurt you. For example, say you hate a person to the core and eventually get them landed in jail for five years. When they almost complete his jail term, you would be terrified, as you would be unable to anticipate what they will do to seek revenge against you after their release from prison. Such torment will go on forever. Therefore, a true Buddhist practitioner must not hate others. Let bygones be bygones and you will be able to avoid a disaster.

HOW TO MAINTAIN A BALANCE BETWEEN TIME SPENT ON WORK AND RECITATION
Caller: Greetings to you Master Lu! I am new to the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door and I would like to seek your advice on how to achieve and maintain a balance between time spent between working and recitation?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Maintaining a balance between work and recitation is similar to maintaining your daily work-life balance. You have to first maintain the equilibrium in your heart. As long as you want to do your recitation, you should seize whatever time you have to do it. You don’t necessarily have to recite at a fixed time. Whenever you have spare time on hand, instead of wasting it on unwholesome thoughts, you should just stay focused on performing your recitation.
Caller: Noted. Thank you.
Master Jun Hong Lu: Bear in mind, performing recitation has the benefit of eliminating disasters and resolving your troubles. So, you should try to do your recitation as and when you are able to.
Caller: Yes. I was on vacation recently and I have been performing my recitation diligently. During this period of time, I felt a sense of serenity. However, as I will be resuming work in February, I am feeling scared and at a loss as I do not know how to maintain the balance.
Master Jun Hong Lu: Fear not. Insist on performing your recitation regardless of whatever hardship and fatigue you have to endure. Embrace Bodhisattva in your heart and you can be assured that you will never lose Dharma.
Caller: I will do that. My gratitude to you, Master Lu.
