I've tried the Arnods Fried Chicken and must say it's different, KFC chicken is rather dry but Arnod's is really juicy a pity they don't have more stores around.

There's an outlet at Hougang Green. And an express outlet at Pasir Ris. And they also have delivery.

Another good chicken chain is popeyes; but the prices is a bit of a premium.

Having sung praises about OCK good model the bad thing about it is that it is too easy to copycat their success as there are no "intellectual property rights" anybody can open a snack store next to OCK stores and sell whatever OCK is selling and since they are not bound by any franchise agreements can slash prices wantonly and compete and in singapore there are many copycats around. Consumers will go for whichever is cheaper or more value for money.

OCK mainstay is their curry puffs. If you look carefully, there are many snack stores around OCK outlets but people still flock there - not just for the curry puffs but for the more common snacks like fishball, fried wanton etc.. which strikes me as strange.

OCK has been around for a long time and I would like to suggest that the company has an emotional connection with its customers. So that even if you set up a store that sells a similar curry puff, you may not necessarily get more customers even if you charge lower. Personally I dun eat OCK every day so when I do go for curry puff, I really dun mind paying a bit more. I suspect many who patronise OCK feels the same.

There is a A1 curry puff in Jurong Point and also OCK there. Though they are not near each other at all. I notice few years back, A1 and OCK puff are at same price. However early last year, A1 increased its puff by 20cents while OCK manage to maintain its prices. There are those standalone stall selling curry puff at much cheaper price but i can assure you those are smaller and the stuff inside their puff are also lesser compared to OCK. So overall, i still OCK puff is value for money.

Never been vested in OCK at all so my view is neutral.

On the subject of puffs going offtrack here. I think OCK puffs are ok but lacking ommph! The number 1 place for curry puffs has to be A1 puffs.

I'm a foodie I know because there was a time long ago where people put lard into pastries, lard adds fragrant and will make pastry light crispy and tasty. In fact many of the famous eateries around SG uses lard to make food tasty like wantan mee or mee pok or char quay teow why do you think so fragrant? - lard is the answer. That's why these days you sometime hear comments when people compare today's and yesteryear's food they cannot understand where the good stuff has gone.

I'm not saying both companies uses lard or not and I've tried both OCK puffs and A1 puffs, OCK puffs as I mention are fairly good but A1 puffs no horse run man. Bo beh chao! go and try it for yourself and see.

but these days lard is not so factory available to have lard you must make it yourself, to make lard buy a big bucket of pork fat or cow fat from butcher I think butcher also don't have so much so must pre-order in advance. Then heat up the wok and just deep fry until oil comes out then store in jar use to fry everything from rice to even chicken wings you will be amazed!

The left over crispy crispy things those are normally what you see end up in your wantan mee Char Quay Teow. You notice those places that don't use lard their food are advertised as healthier choice but taste like crap and their store usually has nobody queuing to buy. In food crazy Singapore nobody will say the food is good or bad but all you need to do is look at the queue to get he verdict.

OT a bit, i like A1 sardine puffs BEST! yes! it's the lard!

foodie habits die hard, so beside investing in OCK, have to invest in medical stocks too... high blood pressure...heart by-pass..

I have tried both and I prefer A1 puff. However my parents prefer ock. I am willing to buy A1 if both costs the same. You might notice A1 puff is smaller and stuff inside lesser compared to ock. Ever since A1 puff costs 1.40 I no longer patronize it. Like you mention, customers will go for whichever is cheaper and value for money.

i went to the AGM at RP last week...though it was a little hard to find the place, but it turned out like a cozy relaxing quiet place in europe.
