Thanks to those FT investors buddies here for sharing your stories. I can really relate to what you said as I have left the corporate world almost two years ago. Till now, I have not entertain thoughts of going back to corporate world again.

After the initial one year of do-what-you-like-at-your-own-free-time, I find it increasing difficult to find things to occupy myself. I certainly do not want to go back to FT employment, well for that matter, not even part time employment. I ever thought of doing lecturing on freelance basis, but that would means some level of commitments and brain works. No, I want to do a simple enough job, no or very little commitments and most importantly, flexible in timing. Money was not the main consideration but if it can keeps me occupied for some times and at the same time I am able to make some kopi money, that is good enough. So in the end, I became a part time taxi driver. Have been doing that for 4 months already. Am happy with it. I have no ego problem being a taxi driver. Friends asked me why I ended up being a taxi driver, which I replied I chose to be one willingly. And after so frequently hearing about complaints about works in office from my passengers, I feel more resolve not to go back to the corporate world.

In my case, I had a rude shock when I cut down on my work, only to have those excess days filled up with household chores, like fetching kids here and there, doing marketing, becoming the diy man at home. Ended up I had a burn out during the time when I had cut down my work, rather than when I was working long hours.

I empathize with you. Man is not wired to do the above full time.

Corporate world is one where human turns into beast. Too much politics when the org doesn't run well. People relationship to each is very fake. The smart ones will see through it but often lower level don't. Next moment your value not there and you are gone.

So can I say you are a savvy full-time stock investor and a part-time taxi ‘uncle’, alternating your time between investing and driving.
When stock market is good, you will spend more time and earn more money from the screen, and when market is not so good, or you have made enough for the day, you will hit the roads to ‘relax’ and at the same can also make some kopi money. Good combination, flexible timing, and most importantly, can be your own boss at the same time! Be happy and enjoy!

There is an old saying that goes something like this :

" when your taxi driver is telling you to buy stock, you know it’s time to sell. "

After reading the above, I need to rethink this statement. The next time a taxi driver talks about stock, I better listen carefully. For all I know, it could be Ben, our full time investor driving the taxi.

I thought driving taxi doesnt work this way? One needs to clock certain min mileage per day i believe else the taxi co will be "fined" by LTA. The taxi co if fined will come to the driver.

you also need to pre-pay several days of your rent in advance to the cab company whether FT or PT so essentially you are forced to work to make back your money and earn a profit the cab company already gotten their rent doesn't really care much if you drive it or not as long as you pay rent on time so there's some level of commitment to yourself also. I see some hirer fall asleep at the wheel drive 10-12 hrs straight. I guess being a relief driver is lesser burden.

driving taxi good thing is your earnings are all in cash if for some reason you need hard cash all the time this is one of the avenue that can provide it daily but your costs for erp fuel and rent are all in cash too.
