(A mockery........The company could extend the work passes of its existing (foreign) workers till the two- year ban is over.)

The MOM, however, declined to disclose when the two-year ban started. But the company can renew the work passes of its existing foreign workers, the MOM told The Straits Times.

I think the last sentence of the article is full of crap. IMO it should be as long as a country's citizens do not give a strong mandate to a govt, you can be assured that the welfare and rights of its citizens will not be taken advantage of.

May I ask where is the 'punishment'?

By allowing the company to keep status quo, MOM is 'accepting' what the firm has done.

As for the 2 year ban 'punishment', the firm can EXTEND the work passes of existing workers till the 2 year ban is over.....

So where is the 'punishment'?

I think the firm's director must be laughing his head off....

I suspect this is a public listed firm.
I don't think this is the only company or industry not meeting MOM requirements, just that this company has flagrantly flouted the rules.

Quite sad when the ministry does not take a proper stance to enforce their own policy.

What will you suggest for the 'punishment'?
Taking into consideration that maybe there are existing Singaporean employees still working there, that will be affected.

Based on the attached news, for 2 years, the company can only employ singaporeans and renewal of work permits that are expiring but no more new work permit application.

I think short term pain is better than long term pain. I believe there is a high chance those Sporeans there will not be treated fairly in terms of wage increment/bonus or career advancement.

If I MoM, I will give the co a 2nd chance and fine them 10% of their revenue. If they repeat mistake, fine them 50% and force close the company and try to reallocate those affected Sporeans to other companies. Tell the co to setup business elsewhere.

So the lesson learned from this fiasco is next time companies want to do the same thing, employ foreign and bind them to a 2 year contract and then off u go Sporean. Repeat the same process if caught every 2 years.

Can't blame the employers because male foreign employees don't have to serve reserve training which is very disruptive to business operation.
