Analyses every stock on stock market and cherry pick the best ones, sure will huat?

I thinking of doing this project. analyse every single stock on stock market.

There are 800 companies on SGX. You as an investor have the option to cherry pick the very best of the best. Buy only the very best of the best ones.

All too often people go after hot stock and hot tips after they heard some news. Little did they know these hot stocks are rotten. The companies is not even making good money!!

I havent started yet but I thinking of researching through the 800 companies on SGX. Cherry pick the very best of the best from these 800. Maybe even expand beyond SGX and look at US market. And this is not some simple screening. It really involves manual looking through the financial statements, reports and news. When real money is on the line, I need to manually do the research.

Imagine you are a big boss and you need to hire 1 employee. Imagine 800 people send resume to you asking for the job. You have the option to cherry pick from the 800. Chance of landing up with a good employee is high. Same for stock. 800 of them are vying for your money. Research all 800 of them and pick the best. Settle for nothing less. Chance of you choosing a winner is high.

My project good or not?

Who can't cheery pick any listing stocks in SGX? The question is which one is the best, whuch is a million-dollar question.

If one manages to pick the best stocks, and with preferred prices, than you are sure huat big big...Big Grin

The flavor of the month seems to be offshore/oil and gas related stocks.

Leading the line is Keppel Corp which has been the subject of aggressive share buybacks. It has since rebounded from a low of 7.94 to a high of 8.83 today.

Not sure whether this will stabilize the share while the oil price is still weakening.

One of the easier ways is to use the following book.

Anyway, most of them are not really appealing. So, it is rather easy to narrow down to a manageable size.

I saw from your example FJ Zhen Yun has good TA but bad FA??? Thought it should be the other way round? Before it was suspended, it was trading significantly below its "CASH" level, like that FA consider not good ah???

You cant follow the FA of 800 stocks. You can probably follow the FA of say 80 alpha stocks.

Thats where the temptation of overriding FA with TA and quant comes. TA and quant uses considerably less time and effort than FA.

How long does it take to interview one candidate in depth to ensure he can do the job well rather than write a resume well? Thereafter the PRICE will still be a considerable factor.

There is many ways to read TA and FA i feel. So you can employ many people but they aren't machine and subject to experience and capability. If one of them is that good why would he want to work for you ?

Wahkao, I just realised the idea of screening 800 companies is pretty whack.

Even the analogy you gave sounds like a really bad idea. Screening 800 applicants or their resumes will assure u that u will be spending so much time on screening rather than running a business.

Here's a different take for u, based on my own idea of Pareto's principle. 80% of the stock market companies are not good enough, and of the remaining 20%, 80% of them will not be wonderful companies to be in. Hence 20%*20%*800 gives you 32 companies to research.

How to get 32 companies? Use google stock screener and put in criteria to filter out bad companies - eg extreme negative cash flow, pe ratio over 50, etc.

You only need to look at 4% of the stock market to huat. (the sti etf shows even less, less than 20 companies can replicate the index.) from there you can do detailed ta and fa.

If you do actually take on this idea, do share what are the 32 companies you finalized, that would be useful for vb forummers.

Thank you.
