That is why there must always be competition!! Big Grin

Especially so in government!

In theory, yes, but in actual fact, it might be too expansive to install competition.

E.g. OpenNet is monopoly in supply of fiber broadband. It needs much more than 700 mil (IIRC, the government subsidy budgeted) to create a direct competition.

I disagreed with that. It's always good to have competition in everything.

competition will always make people work hard to provide more value, If a 100 meter sprinter has no competiton he might think "nobody want's to compete with me I'm so good in everybody's eyes I can do no wrong! I'll just take a slow walk to the finish line I will win the race anyway so why hurry?

ok, how about something close to the heart of every singaporean soccer fan? (hint: not S-league of course!) Big Grin

I'm not a football fan but I sure know you are referring to EPL and WC.

How about FT?

Soccer players don't care about fans they only care about money. I prefer ball games that require careful forward thinking and strategy like snooker for example not mindlessly bashing the ball around.

FT is already here in sg competiting with heartlanders what about it? FT will go wherever there's opportunity to make money they just like everybody else trying to earn a living and get ahead personally mostly am fine with it I work with a lot of FT in my industry I would say when it comes to working style those newer ones whatever nationality the way they work seem like lack urgency or cooperation.

According to a friend very good observation when we first went thru national service during bmt we are exactly like these new FT. Everybody did their own thing and was their own indian chief nobody wanted to cooperate with anybody so the encik and nco have to whack hard to make everybody cooperate together and this already burned into our memory and carried thru when we entered the workforce. So NS is a good thing so when singaporeans work they tend to cooperate to get things done but we expect the FT have that work ethic too problem is they have never experiienced ns so they take time to learn but those FT already here for several years are more familiar with the singapore working style.

Are the visitors of the trade fairs, looking for "cultural experience" or "bargains"? I reckon, more for the latter...Big Grin

NATAS, rival trade barbs as fairs draw near

SINGAPORE — About eight months after several agencies broke away from the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (NATAS), the two sides have continued to trade barbs, with NATAS’ newly-appointed executive director yesterday taking a jibe at the rival fair organised by its disgruntled members.

Speaking to the media for the first time since he was appointed last month, Mr Steven Lek described the Travel Revolution Fair as a “bargain centre” whose main focus “appears to many (to be) just racking up sales”, when asked how the NATAS Travel Fair, to be held from July 31 to Aug 2 at Singapore EXPO, compares with the rival fair organised by the Singapore Outbound Travel Agents Association (SOTAA), which will be held this weekend at Marina Bay Sands.

In contrast, NATAS will offer a “carnival-like atmosphere” at its fair, with cultural performances put together by the tourism authorities of Bhutan and Indonesia, for example, as well as food and games for the family, Mr Lek said.

“Showcasing cultural performances and international cuisine should be a part of a travel fair. Numbers and physical size alone do not make a good travel fair,” he added.

Agree with specuvestor. Price and value. Know the price you are paying and the value derived from the product.
In general, I tend to avoid products and services that are priced way below the norm. There is always a reason for the very low prices. I.e. For budget airlines, spaces are more cramped, delays happen more frequently, etc etc

I too would love a bargain, but if you examine what the bargain entails, it may not be such a bargain after all. Ikea is known for its nicely designed items at super low prices. But there are still many who are totally unsatisfied with its lack of service, product quality, long queue at its outlet, etc etc. To that I can offer a word of advice..."Duh??"
