Hi Alchemist,

Let me share with you on my experience investing overseas as it should be likely the same as Japan. Firstly, you would need to know that homework need to be. There are so risk you might need to watch out. For example, exchange risk. Other than that, cross border trading are typically expensive if you will to buy shares using brokerage firms from singapore. As such, I normally will open a nominee account ( preferably, something like CDP account in singapore) as well as a bank account. Normally, I will transfer money via some sort of remittance ( Do note there is a charge ) service to the bank account to buy shares on the country.

Hope it helps. Wink

Yes, I noted it's going to cost more in terms of brokerages. As for exchange rate, very true need to watch it as well. Thanks for sharing, I've googled a little, very likely will look to POEMS. I chose Japan for a variety of reason including favourable opening hours.

1) Try NOT to LOSE money!

Japan stock market is a upcoming focus of investment funds. It might worth the effort to look at companies there

Wish you all the best, and do update us on your experience.

Many gurus out there - standing on China side - looking at the Japan stock market, too (at least one whom I can think of).
Japan has Toyota cars made in Thailand and many low cost plants in Chennai, India and many infrastructure projects (also with the Koreans). These are known but need not to be very well known. My pessimistic stance is there seems to be levels-of-knowledge clearance these days (or just plain economically backward and therefore lack of standing and refined knowledge - yes, like an egghead - or just shooting off of the mouth) or just lack of general knowledge or just need to get out of Singapore more/travel more to have some change in perspective. Else earn all that money for like nothing like that, right?

True that it's not going to be easy to start. Sounds discouraging, right? Singapore market is a little dull at the moment. Volume is too low, and that is part of the reason why I'm trying to look elsewhere.

Another issue with the Japanese market could be the lack of financial news in English. I can't understand Japanese and perhaps this could be my biggest minus point.

Might as well invest in unit trusts as a buddy suggested. But hey, it simply feel different if you're actually present at the battleground.
