Well, let me clarify on the purpose of the effort

If the effort is to show a consolidated view of "wonderful" stocks invested by VB buddies, than may be VB-33 list might serve the purpose, albeit not as precise as the list. Well, roughly right is good enough with its uncertainties involved.

There is a poll option of thread, which allow buddies voluntarily select options. If the number of polls aren't a lot, it might be a feasible choice.

Cyclone should be able to give further comment on the available choices.

Thank you gzbkel,

Your data provided plenty of food for thoughts: I took out the most vested companies (>6)

All of them are doing well. I used STI as a benchmark, 2940 to 3400... Now 3300 about 10% increase. All beat the index... except St******. All counters are near their historical high, except property counters...

I did not take into account rights, bonus issue, price from yahoo chart.

It seem if there is a VB popular fund, it would do quite well.

Besides property counters, Challenger is the one that is not near recent high.

Time to take a closer look at St****** again...

UMS Holdings (30c-76; 57c)

Kingsmen Creatives (68 - 95; 91)

King Wan Corporation (16-36; 32)

St****** (53-66; 55)

Neratel (40-82; 79)

Low Keng Huat (43 -77; 67)

Popular Holdings (21-31: 25)

The Hour Glass (140-190: 181)

Saizen REIT (75- 115; 95)

ARA Asset Management (135-195 ;175)

Boustead Singapore(95 -192; 177)

VICOM (440 - 675; 668)

Wheelock Properties (156 - 204 ; 183)

Wing Tai Holdings (139 - 237 ; 183)

Challenger Technologies (38 - 62; 50)

China Merchants Holdings Pacific (71 - 97 ; 94)

Guoco Leisure (167 - 256 ; 208)

Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) (393 - 465; 415)

The list is not accurate. I see my name in things I never owned haha.

Need more data to be even better. If everyone add some info to the list, the list will be better. Application of Prisoner Dilemma theory. Hahaah.

Maybe modify like google page rank. That with higher reputation points has more weightage. Haha.

I appreciate gzbkel's idea as a mean to facilitate the learning process.
With so many forumers willing to share the experiences and other information, the forum is an ideal place to learn "how to fish". And it's better to be able to "fish" than waiting for "a gift of fish". Moreover, what suits others may not suit our self.

The forum software has limited features. If forumers would like to disclose their portfolio, they can create a new thread dedicated for the portfolio as this one : http://www.valuebuddies.com/thread-4864.html
But please discuss the counter in the available thread, thanks.

Thanks for all the interest and kind words!

My main purpose of creating the list is to identify stocks with high levels of activity, so that I can prioritize stocks for further study. (Too many stocks, too little time...)
As several people have pointed out, there are many mistakes in the list. One reason is because of software limitation. Another reason is because people tend to declare "vested" more often than "divested", so many of the users currently classified as "vested" may have silently divested long ago. Therefore, we should not rely too much on this list.

Hi valuebuddies, Nick:
Sorry for the mistakes. If you can point out the post(s) that were wrongly classified, I can try to see if there is a way to tweak the algorithm.
However, as mentioned previously, there are limits to how much it can be improved, because it is inherently difficult for programs to understand natural language. I did some random checks, and I estimate the program is currently about 80%-90% accurate. This is good enough for me for my original aim. To improve it further may require much effort with limited ROI.

Hi VIChris, dzwm87
No obligations, but if you wish, you can add a post with the word "divested" to the corresponding thread. Then you will appear as divested the next time I re-generate the report. (No point for me to manually update the list because it will be overwritten in the next generation)

Hi opmi,
I think it is not good to use reputation for weightage because we have a few members with very high reputation. If the program wrongly classifies one of these 30-40+ reputation members, the results will be very skewed!

If members find it uncomfortable to be incorrectly listed as being vesting in something, perhaps we can simply remove the "users" column. That way, we still can identify the high-activity stocks without getting too concerned about individual names. Please let me know if this is better for you.
