if you come into a sudden windfall you cannot tell anybody don't tell a soul. If you do all your old friends old neighbors related unrelated will come look for you with their sad stories.

That auntie who won $415k from casino jackpot machine also met the same fate all gone.

but really $800k is heck of a lot of insurance to buy.

You escape a lot of unnecessary troubles. Some troubles may be beyond your capacity to handle. But then ho! How to "How Lian" and still be safe?
Oopss... Am i "How Lian" now?
WB:-

1) Rule # 1, do not lose money.
2) Rule # 2, refer to # 1.
3) Not until you can manage your emotions, you can manage your money.

Truism of Investments.
A) Buying a security is buying RISK not Return
B) You can control RISK (to a certain level, hopefully only.) But definitely not the outcome of the Return.

NB:-
My signature is meant for psychoing myself. No offence to anyone. i am trying not to lose money unnecessary anymore.

The thing is it's human nature to want to help out others when one is able to but need to also be careful money can change people and many have 2 faces when it comes to money like this case the widow I guess was too softhearted likely cheated by her own brother.

should have put the money into 10yr bond every year collect return enough to supplement income feed so many people then aft 10yr redeem note by then just nice children grown up need money for university.

i remember a story (not sure true or not), Chow Yuen Fatt refused to help one of his best friends when his friend asked him to settle his debt - That was gambling debt.

"Help" can be very subjective to each of us. But i like to think i will try to be as objective as much as possible.

And i believe in the saying if you want to lend money to anyone deserving or not (at least in your heart), be prepared for "doing charity". Also friendship or kinship may deteriorate in quality after the loan. There are many psychology reasons why it is so.
