^^^ Good GDP growth dont translate to election wins. As seen in Australia too.
PAP woke to their own 'GDP growth = happy people/More Good Years' BS after Aljunied GRC loss.

GDP Growth does not translate into growth for all Singaporeans. What is growth if it only impacts a limited set of people and makes them richer?

Growth that benefits all society is what the general society is looking for.

Ministars/Civil service performance bonus linked to GDP growth..
Incentives shaped behaviour.

Link ministers/civil service promotion/pay as a multiple of bottom quartile of income group.

We need to bear in mind, they are here for their own benefits as well, not just for the economic growth or benefits of SG.
After all, this is Asia's century now. Businesses need a gateway to Asia and it is SG.
We still offer one of the best business environment in Asia.
Workers in the region flock here for better pay.
I tend to believe that even if some restrictions are put in place to benefit locals first, foreigners will still come.

I have seen first hand how foreigners are given preferences over locals for jobs, just because the hiring manager is from the same place.
Just sad.

But Singaporeans are given exclusive priority for doing NS , believe foreigners are not keen to compete with Singaporeans on this exclusivity.

Inderjit continues to impress me. I'm wondering if Singapore is ready for a Singh DPM or he will go down the path of Tan Soo Koon. I'm hoping for Singapore and PAP sake he will go far

He pointed out an extremely important socio-psychological impact from foreigners that is diluting our culture, as I have also posted before:
"The influx of immigrants has "diluted" or even "eradicated" the sense of common identity, Mr Singh wrote, with many treating Singapore "as a hotel". Such groups threaten to destabilise foundations upon which the country has built its success, he said.

Inderjit Singh has been a backbencher MP since elected in 1996. Unlikely for him to be promoted to hold any office position. I am speculating the reason for him speaking out ALOUD is because he knows that this is his last term as a MP.

This is a sad truth.. There must privileges given to Singapore citizen against foreigners whether they are talent or not. Even if they don't draw the distinction between PR & Citizens.. I am ok.
While least give us an opportunity ??! I work in the financial sector and most of the HODs are foreigners.. This has been going on and on regardless of what measures govt try to push thru.. (fair hiring or advertising for Singaporean applicant first)..

You may have you CFAs MBA and whats not but the truth is opportunity is never given to you. How do you know we as Singaporeans are not capable of delivering? How then can we climb up the social ladder?

I know the feeling.

I once applied to well known local bank for a high level position. I had the qualifications & experience that far exceeded what they were looking for.

The hiring manager said I was a great match for the job, but when the VP & his assistant interviewed me , they rejected me .

I had queried why I was rejected after 4 interviews and passed all of them with flying colors and they could not give me a reason.

I finally found out they hired someone from Australia the VP already knows.

The only way I was able to find out was I knew something inside the bank who told who was hired and how the person was hired.

Discrimination at its best and in a local bank! not a foreign MNC.

In Daniel Kahman's book "Thinking, fast and slow", it talked about a human heuristic that conclusions tend to be sway by the max and end data points. He maybe seeing himself coming to the end (i concur with you) and he hopes to create some max data points, to seal his legacy.
