Yeah I agree. But I will wait to see if edge gives me a discount. I have a friend who did it successfully last year.

I reckon the layman (especially civil servants* and other folks not working in sales) will always make a mistake that pricing of a product / service is based on cost.

Unfortunately, cost of product is usually only one of the maybe 5 to 10 factors determining the pricing. And pricing is usually an art. If the consumers can afford to pay and are willing to pay for it, who is to argue otherwise. E.g. for folks who travel SQ frequently, you might notice that outbound flights (e.g. SIN-SHA-SIN) are more expensive than inbound flights (SHA-SIN-SHA). I do not think that there is a difference in the cost of providing the flights. It is just that for some "special" reason, Singaporeans prefer to take SQ and are willing to pay a premium for it.

* Sorry for the dig. I just couldn't resist taking it against the civil service.

I usually borrow from the public library for leisure reading.

The library will display a copy in the magazine section on Wednesday/ Thursday, much later than digital and print subscription.

But it is free, so no complains from me.

I reckon it is just a joke.

We should respect the IP of the magazine. A subscription of S$124 a year sound a lot, but it is just approx $2.4 a week, assuming 52 issues, less than paying a cup of premium coffee.

Anyway, the APP is protected, and only one active account at any time. I doubt it can be shared easily, without hacking.

The edge just called me to confirm no discount will be given. But I can choose between lawrys or ocean seafood dining voucher. Did a check on ocean seafood, super atas place also. 😐

Personally, I think The Edge magazine adds very little value except than a form of leisure reading. As mentioned by changwk, the additional fee paid for first-hand news is redundant because I don't think there is any 'critical' info for us to profit from. A few hours later, everybody is on the same playing field with the weekends to 'digest' the info. More often than not, we can get most of the info from the SGX announcements page. For myself, the magazine just get piled up weeks after weeks. If you are using The Edge for research purposes, you can just go to the library and use Factiva for a historical search. It's more convenient than flipping the pages and remembering which week it was.

I think is the crucial point, if this magazine does not contribute REAL value, it will not command a value price.
