Volume of private homes sold in May at level B4 TDSR

When the G introduced loan curbs via the TDSR last june, the private housing market went into a tail spin.

Many tend to forget that the majority of private home buyers these days are investors first rather than owner occupiers.
Investors are less price sensitive in terms of affordability than in terms of exposure to risk.
Investors stay out of the market as they perceive higher risk and not because they can not afford the properties.

In total, developers sold 1,470 private homes last month, the highest since last June and a 96% jump from 749 units sold in April.
The volume also returns developers' sales to the levels recorded B4 TDSR.

Can we expect similar robust new home sales in the coming months?
Why not?
Prices may remain weak for the present but, if sales return in a big way,
Who knows?
