AGM or Annual General Makan ?

i have attended some AGMs with few people attending, and i see that the food goes to waste. I think ta bao is alright as long as the intention is not to waste food, provided most shareholders have left the place. but if ta bao is done right at the start, then i think it is not too nice la!

I think people who view themselves as business owners will attend agms. People who view stocks as securities that are traded online/brokers dont really see agms as something important

i think you are right to a certain extend. i view myself as a "ROJAK INVESTOR".
But then how can you be sure what you see is what you get at AGM?
The same with reading ARs. We can only hope what we read and see is really what we get.
There is such thing as "window dressings" most of the times in anything people do. It's up to each of us how to see the differences in the things people do. And what you interpret may be different from mine though we may see the same things or ARS.

i attended 2nd chance AGM last year. Management did an excellent thing with regards to food. They implement a lunch box concept. Each shareholder is given a food voucher which can used to redeem your lunch box. there was no rush for food at the end of AGM. There was no food wastage too. I think other companies should implement this concept too.

Try Singtel or DBS AGMs. Those turn in madness once the buffet doors open.

The company in question for the AGM mentioned by Andrew Seow seems to be the recent M1 AGM. Yes, there was a mad rush for food after the AGM and some even left before the meeting ended so that they can get a "head start" when the buffet door opens.

Often, you can see people "ambush" near the AGM venue so that when the buffet door opens, they can join in for food. I suspect some of them are not even shareholders of the company in the first place. They are just part of the "makan party" where the aim of the day is to get free food. You might be surprised that they go hungry for the whole day just for that. It is now or never for them with respect to AGM food.

I am really curious are all the folks on the floor shareholders though..... or just there for the food.

Nothing wrong with going there just for food. If everyone just take their shares and NO ta bao.

Old folks in Singapore, have little entertainment opportunities. AGMs seem one of the choices with FOC meal, and strong feel of participation.

I am not sure what's the basic rules you are referring to here. When it comes to food after AGM, there are totally no rules. During this period, I would try my best to attend all the AGMs in my portfolio but all I see is pushing and shoving to get to the food. There are even times when the waiter has to balance himself to ensure that the tray that he was holding would not fall off his hands. Graciousness and education should play a part here. Hopefully, those younger generation would not resort to what the old folks did during AGMs.

I have observed that the worst ones are Keppel group of companies. CapMall Asia give vouchers and SPH give bento. It is actually more orderly. There are some which only little shareholders attend, such as Kingsmen Creative. I actually like this type of fewer shareholders AGM.

well, Boardroom AGM was relatively non-event. So much food left and also got chance to speak to MD directly.

In one of the AGM I attended, I saw a SH loading handful of grapes into both his pockets, apparently because he does not have a plastic bag to packet them. I wonder what will happen to AGM when people are allow to buy stocks at 100 shares/lot. Obviously, more food will have to be cater to the enlarged SH crowd, or no food during AGM.

Its ok if you are a shareholder I believe (not the ta bao) but if you are not and you go there for the food..... is that not ungracious?
Its like an uninvited guest, gatecrashing into a wedding or party.
Don't tell me they do not have enough to eat, it is basically greedy.
Even if there are food available, some hotels do arrange for package and deliver to the needy.
Is that not better?
