when was the last time sgx/mas bring insider trading against any1 here haha. insider trading here's running wild =). and u wonder who and how strong they carry out the insider trades (manage to move olam - not just a penny stock, with such large trading volume up by 30% in a month). i ll be suprised if sgx/mas bother to check insider trading on this one.

Olams 6.75% bond ramped up to 1.025 today.
If Temasek ends up with a substantial stake in Olam (and there's no reason to believe most people won't take up its offer), then Olam's effective credit rating has to improve. Currently at 1.025, it has a yield to maturity of 6.24%. Temasek's own bonds are just tens of basis points above USD treasuries.
The gap should close. Even though Olam is a separate entity, it's hard to see how Temasek would not backstop its billion dollar investment. Worth getting some and holding to maturity even if for some strange reason, the yield doesn't go down (price go up) for the temasek backstop. Even at a price of 1.1, the yield is still 4%.
I bought a bunch today as a matter of fact when I saw the news.

There is clear definition of insider trading within SFA Chapter 289, Part XII market conduct, Division 3 insider trading. We might have our own definition of "insider trading", but it might not necessarily illegal, base on the SFA.
So please refrain from making similar allegation. We may doubt on the adequacy of the current law on curbing insider tradings. If you find the activities fall into cases of insider tradings, you can always make a report to MAS, and follow-up from there

price run up could just be an effect of temasek getting its associates to collect OLAM shares. If there is constant buy in, price can be pushed up very fast, specially if there is another substantial shareholder who is letting go of shares in small quantities each time pushing up the price...
Of course I believe more in the insider trading theory

Recent sharp gain in Olam shares fuels concerns over possible insider trading
PUBLISHED: MARCH 15, 4:12 AM
Temasek Holdings’ buyout offer yesterday came after Olam’s share price had accelerated dramatically in recent weeks against the backdrop of a flat market, leading some investors to cry foul and call on regulators to investigate possible insider trading in violation of securities laws.
Shareholder activist Mano Sabnani said in his Facebook posting: “What is upsetting is that there seems to have been a big leak of information on this takeover bid.
“The stock has been steadily rising on increasing trading volume in the past three to four weeks.”
Over the last four weeks, Olam shares have risen 41.1 per cent, compared with the 1.1 per cent gain in the benchmark Straits Times Index during the same period.
“In such a takeover, there will be many people involved in planning it and the chances of a leak are great. An early suspension in trading of the stock would have helped to achieve a level playing field,” said Mr Sabnani.

agree with u on the legal definition of insider trading part. i tend to use this term quite widely lol. anyone know if the run up was caused by temasek collecting more shares? anw to check? i thought tem would need to make some filling if it acquire more shares on open-market transactions.

If the management knew there was a significant event going to take place, then it was right to ask for a halt of trading of the share, unless it was just a market rumour.

The pattern or history of trading (aka price increases very much for no apparent reason in a short time) shows something "fishy is going on", but you can do nothing about it unless you have concrete evidence. Now which cat doesn't like to eat fish when available. This "phenomenon" will happen all over again and again in the markets of the world.
That's why there is always a different between insiders and outsiders.
