I hope I could help. Recently I was being introduced a critical illness plan at OCBC which insurer is Great Eastern. My wife scenario is to pay a sum of S$1,300 per year for 35 years, and at the end of the policy she will get back all the premium she paid. The coverage is S$100,000 but the insured person might received up to 160% of the insured sum if he/she is in the advance stage of the critical illness. I personally think that it is quite ok in the sense that you are saving for the future, even though losing on inflation. But take note that the minimum tenor is 15 years, and the entry age has to be 50 and below.

p/s: my wife has not confirmed the policy and I am not working/vested in OCBC or GE

orangetea, valuebuddies, thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I met my agent yesterday. Turns out that that my current policy covers 30 CI's, but not the early stages.
So for cancer, it needs to be invasive etc to qualify for pay out.
She recommended an additional plan, the "AIA Healthshield Gold Max".
This one covers hospitalization expenses, and expenses incurred 100 days before and after hospitalization.
It also covers some outpatient treatment such as chemotherapy.

Since most CI's require hospitalization, I think this should be sufficient for my needs.
Some lifestyle illness such as like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes that do not require hospitalization. But these can be prevent with proper exercise and diet.
