I am not sure whether private car hirers joining hands with local taxi fleets help. Every time I request for JustGrab, 99% of the time, a private car came instead of a taxi. This was also the case in Uber previously. Seems taxi drivers are picking and choosing. I guess most are financially independent and just passing time driving taxis.

It's not that taxi drivers are financially independent, the main reason is pricing of jobs from Grab is simply too low compared to what they can get under normal taxi rates. JustGrab gross rates are already 10% lower than taxis without surge and coupled with anywhere between 20% - 50% being withheld as commission depending on the drivers' service tier, it simply makes no sense to go for jobs that are paying net 30% - 60% lower when the Comfort App is still able to bring reasonable number of bookings.
Grab drivers are sometimes forced to accept even loss making or breakeven trips in order to bump up their service tiers and more importantly those who are driving their own car or leasing at some discount rates of $60 per day are still able to make the job barely profitable.

With money getting more expensive (rise of interest rates) and memories/stories of bruising fights still fresh, will new participants (if any) actually "learn" to co-exist together?

Without the details yet, but this will probably further reduce the no. of private hire vehicles on the road and give biz back to the taxis.
A potential regulation that could come would be private hire vehicles need to undergo the same 6monthly inspection schedule like taxis (why shouldn't they?) and this will be mildly positive to VICOM (there are ~40k+ private hires on the roads compared to 20k+ taxis)
Singapore to streamline rules governing taxis, private-hire cars
A LONG-AWAITED move by Singapore's transport regulator to impose tighter rules on private-hire operators is finally on the way.
The Land Transport Authority said on Thursday it is proposing to license all street-hail and ride-hail operators "as they provide the same fundamental service of transporting commuters from point to point".
This is a stark change from the time when these newcomers arrived six years ago, when the authority viewed them as "tech companies" and not transport providers.

The second investment is that in Haulio, a container trucking technology company incubated by PSA International’s corporate venture capital arm, PSA unboXed.
The third investment is in an Israel-based autonomous vehicle safety testing and compliance technology company called Foretellix.

CDG doing National Service? What other companies, which hire large number of Singaporeans, have to do National Service?
COMFORTDELGRO TAXI EXTENDS RENTAL RELIEF TILL SEPTEMBER, GOES INTO THE RED
Cabby Tan Soon Huat, 61, who has been with ComfortDelGro Taxi for 27 years, says this is the worst he’s seen. “Business is not good so any form of help or rebates from the Company and the Government is welcome. I'm not sure how long more the COVID-19 situation would last and I appreciate that the Company is trying its best to help us by extending the rental reduction and waiving the call levies until end of September. It's a difficult time for everyone now. For me, I will continue taking any jobs that come my way."

a BIG thank you to comfortdelgro for this national service, you take from the society, and you give back to the society.
Transportation is a bread and butter issue and is a society cost too!
I would like to see how has Comfortdelgro management did so far, hopefully not like SIA!
1) Try NOT to LOSE money!
2) Do NOT SELL in BEAR, BUY-BUY-BUY! invest in managements/companies that does the same!
3) CASH in hand is KING in BEAR!
4) In BULL, SELL-SELL-SELL!

Comfortdelgro has been doing national service all along... And, I wonder why. Does anyone still remember the years of losses that SBS suffered until the recent revamp of the entire bus bidding system?
