As per the Apple thread... if you noticed the previous iPhone initial launch, the countries were G7 + HK (China) except Singapore Smile I thought it was very peculiar or maybe attest to our spending power Big Grin

Yes, i agree purely from spending power perspective. But Singapore might be an exception as the location of its global headquarter. China should always at the top of the list, where the key customer groups located Big Grin

Sold out in only a few minutes! No wonder I always fail to order one. I am definitely slower than those die-hard Xiaomi fans. Big Grin

Xiaomi set to take on the world after successful Singapore launch

BEIJING — When China’s Xiaomi began selling smartphones in Singapore this year, each batch sold out in only a few minutes. So, when the company asked those on Facebook to spread the word that more phones would be available soon, one fan was having none of it.

“Spread the word so my friend can compete with me to buy the phone in under eight minutes?” wrote 31-year-old documentary film director Zen Yeo. “You must be kidding me.”

Such is the fervour for Xiaomi as it continues its rise to become one of China’s top tech companies. Xiaomi’s appeal? It offers the technology and style of Apple or Samsung at less than half the cost.

India, Brazil and Russia, the next 3 countries to tackle. It seems EMs are the targets, which seem rational. Pricing is more sensitive in EMs, which Xiaomi has advantage over its competitors.

China’s Xiaomi to enter 10 more countries

BEIJING — Xiaomi, the four-year-old smartphone maker that outsells Apple in China, plans to enter 10 more countries this year as it accelerates international expansion.

Sales will start in nations including India, Brazil and Russia, Mr Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s founder and chief executive officer, said at a press conference in Beijing yesterday.

The maker of smartphones, televisions and routers is broadening its range of consumer electronics and expanding overseas to build on existing sales in its home market of China as well as that of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. Xiaomi keeps costs down by selling directly to consumers online and Mr Lei has set a goal of boosting sales five-fold to 100 million phones next year.

“You can certainly call this an acceleration,” said president and co-founder Bin Lin in an interview after the event. “It’s our mission and our belief that this model should be able to achieve some level of success outside of China.”

Xiaomi recorded 1.5 billion yuan (S$302 million) in orders during a one-day Web sale in China on April 8 and is now the nation’s third-largest e-commerce site, the company said.

Its Mi3 smartphone sells in China for 1,999 yuan, or less than half the 4,488 yuan price of Apple’s iPhone 5c. And buyers are potentially getting a better-equipped phone for their money: Compared with the 5c, the Mi3 has a larger, sharper screen, a camera with higher-density pixels and a speedy quad-core processor from Nvidia or Qualcomm.

Xiaomi captured 7 per cent of China’s smartphone market in the fourth quarter, ranking just ahead of Apple, data from research firm Canalys showed.

At the conference, Mr Lei unveiled two new router products, one that sells for 699 yuan and can control household appliances, as well as a stripped-down version for 129 yuan. Xiaomi also announced an update to its set-top TV Box.

saw the phone, price is really a big factor... however, the look and feel is somewhat lacking I think, compare to Apple/Samsung.
The icons just seems so "not polish"/lacking.... I don't know, just don't look that sleek.
Could be just me, as it seems to fly off the shelf pretty quickly.

The Note is similar as Samsung Note, with screen size of 5.5", but $199 is much cheaper.

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note to go on sale July 8

1) Will it last 2 years without problem?
2) How good is the battery (only time can tell)?
3) How long does it take to charge a battery fully?

I didn't use a Xiaomi, so not able to provide an answer.

Xiaomi started its first phone in Aug 2011, almost 3 years ago. The Xiaomi gained significant market share in China, as a private company. The teething issue should already iron out.

Let's see the acceptance, after China.
