True, and this is called marketing gimmick: Xiaomi sold 10,000 smartphones in under 10 minutes

"SOLD OUT" this word is very powerful, it gives impression of excellent, but people tends to forget to look at the numbers of supplies.

hmm.... personal observation in China, those who can afford it prefer Apple or Samsung. I was actually told by an chinese business counterpart (who brought me to a Xiaomi shop for a look-see) that she was changing from her Huawei to a S4.

Foreign brands seem to have a certain cache in China. But given that the Chinese market is so big, there is always enough people to support domestic brands. China domestic brands also support TD-SCDMA (China Mobile), which is a china standard which is a separate market by itself.

Having said that, have played around with Xiaomi products and they are pretty slick. Love the MIU interface. Hope they succeed here.

Finally, the Xiaomi will be here...

Xiaomi’s Redmi phone to launch in S’pore Feb 21

SINGAPORE — Chinese phone-maker Xiaomi has announced that it will launch a phone in Singapore for the first time on Feb 21. It made the announcement for the launch of the Redmi phone today (Feb 14) on its Facebook page.

First released last year in China, the Redmi (or “Hongmi” as it is known in China) will be released at the price of S$169. It retails for 799 Chinese Yuan (S$167) in China. Details on how to purchase the phone have not yet been revealed.

A budget smartphone, the Redmi is aimed at first-time smartphone users, and features a quad-core 1.5 GHz processor and a 4.7” IPS (720P) display with a Corning Gorilla Glass 2 screen. It also has an 8MP camera.

The phone is able to accommodate two sim cards, but is only able to enjoy up to 3G speeds.

Xiaomi currently operates in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, and this marks its first foray into Singapore

As announced, the budget XiaoMi is available in Singapore. Soon the top-end model Mi3 will be in Singapore on Mar 7, with price tag of $419 without contract...Big Grin

Xiaomi’s Redmi is a great budget smartphone

SINGAPORE — A quad-core smartphone with 4.7” display and 8MP camera for just S$169 without contract — it’s unbelievable, but it’s happened: China smartphone maker Xiaomi will launch their Redmi (known as Hongmi in China) budget smartphone in Singapore on Feb 21.

And while budget phones might conjure up images of cheap plastic backing and poor buttons, that’s not the case with the Redmi, which feels surprisingly solid — at 158g, it even feels dense.

S$169 and S$419 is a real price differentiation... unlike the crazy Apple 5C... I think S$169 will be sold fast

Me too. If it is in the re-contract term's phone, it will be a bonus. i don't mind even to top up some $ to get this phone in re-contract terms. But No one mention about the 8 MP camera performance leh. Which i am quite interested.
