The irony is that the old king thinks the new king is not aware of the political danger the new king is in by being too cozy with pro-biz Thaksin. IIRC Thaksin was so successful and powerful that the monarchy's power was diminished, and thais don't really like the crown prince.

The other irony is of course the yellow shirt couldnt win an election. What exactly is a people's council that the Democrats are so called supporting indirectly? Appointed government by the King? So the Democrats become an oxymoron? This is not dissimilar to Hamas being elected yet unrecognised, but there are greater powers at work.

Thailand is effectively stuck between a rock and a hard place. Status quo is best for now until the new king comes... then it will get complicated. Thaksin knows he will outlast the old king.

Will 'People Council' make Thailand better?

Your guess is as good as mine.

They, the elites own about everything on the land including the land of course. This small group thinks that they even own all the poor people and have full control over them. Then came TS who liberate the people's power and the poor tasted a bit of the fruits. The jar of worms have been opened and it cannot be stuff back in anymore.

No, the elites DO NOT want to share. That is the root of this problem dating back to two hundred years.

What we are witnessing is the death rattle of the conservatives that have ruled Thailand for the past 200 years.

Thaksin is no saint. He is a businessman and with his own vested interest. He sold Shin Corp offshore so that he can keep the billion away from Thai regulation interference. Temasek is also tainted on this deal because it is obvious what Thaksin was trying to do. (akin to UBS helping the rich Americans to avoid tax and more. Wihout this deal he couldn't be so carefree in exile)

Nonetheless he has brought confidence and wealth to the rurals. Net Net I think he is good for Thailand, unless he turned into another Marcos as time pass and power grips.

Won't be like Marcos. Thaksin was uber rich before he entered politics.
Kleptocracy usually happened when the leaders from poor and deprived background.
Like in Africa, Eastern Europe and some ASEAN countries.

In a democratic society, the Law equally applies to everyone.
They don't want that as they think they are above the Law.
They will use every tricks in the book and succeeded in forcing out a democratically elected Govt.

I think that it is not so easy for the yellows this round as many of the foot soldiers are "water-melon", green outside but "red" inside.
The soldiers are "poor" themselves unlike their commanders.

They can use southern soldiers but in the barracks are loads and loads of northern soldiers.

This recent editorial talks about the political conundrum which we addressed above. But missed an important ingredient to make the analysis complete: the driving force behind the Democrats and the Yellow Shirts.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-12-10...ystem.html

"The demonstrators who have filled the streets of Bangkok over the past several weeks say snap elections called by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra are no concession, because her ruling party is certain to win."

I'm not even sure how to respond to this statement. Frustration is now an understatement... more like exasperation.

When i saw the perfectly standardize made placards held by the demonstrators in TV, I already knew there is RICH hidden hands behinds all this events to topple the government. Is incredible that there are elements who are for themselves will ignore the country needs and deceived a large portion of people to support them. Is always WRONG to topple democratically elected government. This is basic common sense.

Thailand is a sad story. Clearly the majority people want better life which thaksin can provide.
Him in power is a credible competitor to Singapore but i also believe Singapore would support him.

The Army, Elite Opp and maybe the Monarchy's powers(for some) in cahoot with them will face the wrath of God one day for their selfish acts.

Cory,
difficult to say...
很难说。
Both color has their arguments/merits.

What is clear to me that if TS become PM again, we will kana... our dream of 6.8 or 8m people unlike will achieve...

Also, Yellow shirt has a lot of support from Bangkok residence... like lawyer, teacher, engineer. These people are white collar workers and they can see further than the Red's supporter.

You know that if these intellect support Yellow movement then there must be something that they see that Red is not doing correctly.

Of course the reverse might not be true. Aka, these intellect do not like what they see in the current gov, does not imply that they LIKE the policy of the Yellow...
It's that of they can not stand Red's policy, so no choice support Yellow law.

Got I mean?

At this moment, Yellow has a urgency to move fast... because situation might be turning bad for them. However, without military support...then BAU.
