I am not so concern on the phone spec, but its popularity (not sure on the volume, but shouldn't be too low with ZTE), sold out in 3 days.

There was a debate on market demand of low cost phone, even Apple is looking at low-cost phone market. Will this news proved that the demand is there, even in UK and US, both developed countries? Hmm...

Firefox OS smartphone sells out

LONDON - The Open smartphone running Firefox OS has sold out on eBay in the United Kingdom and the United States after just three days.

The phone was retailing for £59.99 (S$120) in the UK and US$79.99 (S$102) in the US.

It was released on the site on Friday, but by Monday both the US and UK eBay stores of ZTE, the Chinese company which manufactured the handset, had sold out.

The budget phone will now no longer be available until the next production run, the Daily Telegraph reported.

The Open comes unlocked and is completely web-based, so users do not need to download and install apps.

In terms of specs, The Open comes with a 3.5-inch screen, 1GHz processor, 3.2-megapixel camera and 512MB of integrated storage.

wow amazing. it will be easier to sell out if they don't have so many sets. at that price i am willing to buy haha.

but my gripe is whether HTML5 can persist storage well. they couldnt firm up a standard and the limit is 5mb storage.

From ZDNet,

That the devices sold out in the UK and US might be as sign of success, but for now, fewer than 1,000 buyers in each market were able to get their hands on the device. According to its US and UK eBay pages, just 990 were sold in the UK while 985 were shifted in the US.

and that explains why haha.

but from a prominant telecom and phone watcher in finland, the success of phones is not down so much to feature and all BUT to carrier support.

the original iphone couldn't have taken off had apple sold it standalone. they sold it with a major carrier AT&T
