I think the official reason for high pay is to attract talent. And so it can be rearranged to show that there are talented individuals who are attracted by the high pay (money).

Corruption must be "clean" and transparent.

Teo CH said the PMO is very concerned about this high profile corruption case. He called CPIB and Commericial Affair to conduct a study. The study showed over the last 5 years, the case is actually very small..

He is short to say we must be thanksful. He is short to say common, we are still better than Malaysia...

I would like him to wake up... After you guys declare yourselves as the best of best, corruption free, of highest integrity and give yourselves such world class pay... We are zero tolerant against any corruption.

I would suggest you step down..or go to mountain to mediate, and to ask yourself are you here to serve or are you here just to wayang and make money...

Go home.. go back to OCBC and be a banker... have higher standard.. Maybe can ask VB to speak...

VB integrity is so much higher... He almost cried in public over hawker center cleaniness.. I believe he will cry again and apologise if he is talking today..

So see no corruption, heard no corruption is better?
Come on, there is no such 'perfect' world.

Better to have enforcement than corruption behind the shadow.

so who wants to be a minister?
I bet my money that most of them wish they could just resign.

I am very curious...... How do you know most of them wish to resign?
Did most of them share their private thoughts with you?

My thoughts:

The fact that they are caught, means the system is not beyond repairs. It should be a wake up call, and whatever system in place might need to be reviewed as it might be ineffective as insiders know how to exploit the loopholes after many years.

I know many like to bash the govt. for whatever flop that happens, but I think both extreme thinking are just silly, and there are:

Its the end of SIngapore if PAP are out of power

It will be a better tomorrow when they are out of power in 2016. Come on... Be careful what you wish for. Seriously, the opposition doesn't inspire confidence

Public services are made up of sons and daughters of Singapore. And, these sons and daughters are raised by the Singaporean parents that pass them the moral values.
So, in general, the failures of the public service's integrity are traced back to the parents.
And the ultimate question is, did the parents do their job in educating the kids?

You can't expect an employer to assess a young aspiring man/woman of their integrity in three interviews. Or teach them moral values at the age of 25, 35 or 45.

Wow! It's been some time since i come across such statements. Most of the time it is criticism and criticism. No matter what they do, it doesn't agree with people either here or there.

It can't be everything they do are wrong.

I agree with you here. With them in power, there is still stability and unemployment rate is low. There are jobs out there for everyone. It is a matter of whether one wishes to take up the job. Choice is a luxury in some places nowadays.

Seriously, do you think people are willing to step forward to run the country if high pay is excluded? Opposition parties are really so passionate in serving the people if they are paid like the working class?

There are bound to be black sheep among the flock. But as long as the majority aren't, i still have confidence in the government.

So if paying them so much ineffective in curbing corruption so I think next they will say they should get paid even more. Big Grin

So that's what processes like checks and balances are for right? After the SLA corruption incident they say they added all these and tightened the process so how come this thing still got thru? So now going to form a committee to discuss it and let the issue quietly die off? Tongue

That's why everybody say civil service and PAP should be separate, by grouping them together they can control everything they are "too big to fail" people in high position can exploit the situation by using their authority to steal money and other abuses as we have all seen recently.
