In the situation of same day buy and sell of designated stocks, the trader does not have the stock in the CDP account yet and therefore, it will be classified as short selling.
Thanks for the info. I have always thought short sell means having the intention to push the share price lower and profit from it. I didnt know buy then sell is considered as short.

In a situation where say i have 50 lots of X bought at $3 in my CDP acct. I decided to buy 50lots more on a certain day also at $3 and it shoot up 30% on that day and I decided to sell off 50 lots. It is quite confusing whether this is considered as short.

in yr case is not considered a shortsell because u already have 50lots in yr cdp to support the sell..so it is quite clear..
unless u r selling 51lots, the first 50lots should be ok. but I cant say for sure for that 51th one lot

But the additional 50lots that I have bought and sold on same day is considered as contra and hence short by sgx definition since I do not have those additional 50 lots in my cdp acct yet. correct?

Should brokers have the accounts holdings information? Think sometime back there was a discussion about this? What is the result?

That is a very big hint.....Tongue

Amfraser, CIMB, Kim Eng. There are 3 of them.

You left out RHB which acquired DMG-OSK, the brokerage house most negatively impacted by Blumont/Asiasons/Lion Gold's plunge.

Under normal trading condition, if you buy then sell within 3days, it will be deemed as contra, whether you are holding to existing shares or not.

Under the special Designated condition, then NO contra is allow. So the shares MUST exist in the CDP account before any sell can take place, to avoid being labelled as "short-selling".

Blumont Group successfully raises $43.05 million from 1-for-2 rights issue...over-subscribed by 37.23%? I'm surprised by the huge demand for it currently.
