I have always thought short sell means having the intention to push the share price lower and profit from it. I didnt know buy then sell is considered as short.
In the situation of same day buy and sell of designated stocks, the trader does not have the stock in the CDP account yet and therefore, it will be classified as short selling.
In a situation where say i have 50 lots of X bought at $3 in my CDP acct. I decided to buy 50lots more on a certain day also at $3 and it shoot up 30% on that day and I decided to sell off 50 lots. It is quite confusing whether this is considered as short.
