Yahoo in talks to buy Tumblr for S$1.36 billion: Report

SAN FRANCISCO - Yahoo’s board will meet tomorrow (May 19) to vote on whether to offer US$1.1 billion (S$1.36 billion) in cash for New York-based blogging service Tumblr, tech blog AllThingsD cited sources close to the situation as saying yesterday.

Such an acquisition would be CEO Marissa Mayer’s largest deal since taking the helm of the once-iconic Internet company in July 2012. Yahoo is keen on Tumblr because its younger user base would enhance the older website’s “cool factor”, the technology blog cited the sources as saying.

Yahoo 2013 sales outlook cut as CEO Mayer’s efforts falter

SAN FRANCISCO – Yahoo trimmed its outlook for 2013 revenue yesterday (July 16) after reporting ongoing reductions in display advertising sales volume and prices in the second quarter, signs that CEO Marissa Mayer’s attempts to revive the struggling Internet giant may not produce results in a timely fashion.

The company is now forecasting revenue of S$5.6 billion to $5.73 billion this year, down from S$5.67 billion to $5.79 billion previously. Yahoo also reported that second-quarter net revenue was down slightly at US$1.071 billion, though it posted adjusted profit that was ahead of Wall Street targets.
