Singles to be allowed to buy flats directly from HDB

All singles pay income taxes. Male singles serve NS. Singles contribute. In fact, i dont see anything wrong with letting singles buy subsidised Hdb. The minimum age of 35 should even be lowered.

Your obsession of making children is stupid. The world seem to be overpopulated, with the rapid growth in human and their activities, you should go take a look at rapid extinction of wildlife over the past few decades. Humans dont own the earth, we are only a part of it, so dont act so self centred.

I'm talking about increasing our birthrates if we have more people the politicians don't have excuse to bring in so many PMET means more Singaporeans can benefit, jobs with higher income will go to them how is that being self centered?

We have limited land resources, we are not like malaysia. The only other largest landowner of undeveloped land in Singapore is SAF training land. If we now have to set aside land to build homes for singles now and in the future will we still be able to keep it cheap for people who genuinely want to start families hence need bigger homes?

i was told that many those 2 room flats left unsold because many elderly senior citizens did not pick them up...so many left-overs for khaw to resolve..dunno if is true

Yes i agree, the singles have been discriminated for a long time. They should not be ignored, especially after White Paper target 7M population in year 2030. It quite obvious now the trend of property till year 2030

What about those who are single, served their NS and is above 35 and above $5k of pay and less than 10k (they are taxed too!)?
With sky high HDB prices, isn't they are one of the worst lot?

Allowing ALL singles to purchase their own flats of all sizes will probably cause another housing squeeze of another type, as well as being a counter-policy to the pro-family life. Perhaps more policy finetuning will come in further generations but it is a very impressive first step.

80% of over-35 singles qualify for new two-room BTO flats: Khaw

SINGAPORE — More than 80 per cent of singles over the age of 35 are eligible to buy new two-room Build-to-Order (BTO) flats, National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan said in Parliament today.

Mr Khaw announced last week during the Ministry of National Development’s Committee of Supply debate on the Budget last Friday that singles aged 35 and above, and who earn less than S$5,000 a month, would be eligible to buy new two-room BTO flats from July.

He was responding Member of Parliament for Nee Soon GRC Lee Bee Wah who asked for a timeframe for the review of the salary cap for singles who can buy new flats.

In response, Mr Khaw said this was a first step and he preferred to “start cautiously” so as to avoid tightening later on which would cause more disappointment to singles.

He said that he will be monitoring the current demand before considering raising the income ceiling. SUMITA SREEDHARAN
