I don't understand how people calculate their realised or unrealised gains/losses. If mr. buffett calculates his returns as realised gains he would have probably gained very little because he holds his things forever!

Buffett collects loads of dividends.
Buffett shows his top unrealised gains in his annual report. but yes he is more interested in cashflow

Is kind of misleading to say we have 1000% realised gains when you are also holding equal amount of suspended poor performer stocks holding with virtually no chance to get dividends or recovery as unrealised...
Yes. It has to be total gain/loss regardless realise or not. Some time pp has the concept that loss will return "automatically" to even field.

Like I said before, this forum needs some serious moderations in calculating returns. Moderators, can you please put in a single solid structure for recording returns like all the funds out there. Using NAV is the best method. While we can't audit other people's returns, we just have to put our faith into honest forumers. At least we can still have apples to apples comparison.

Those who put the information here put their information freely.
Unless someone is going to pay me to do a calculation based on whatever metric, why should I bother to do it in any specific way?
In short, I do not give a damn on what do you think of my portfolio return.
