No sweat lah! As long it's not offensive or personal attack. Right or centre or left, everyone is entitle to his own mental images. As long as the facts are facts.

As an anonymous Christian's prayer says, "No one reacts to things as they are, but to one own mental images."
So if you can react to things as exactly as they are, it means you are GOD already. Perfect!

WB:-

1) Rule # 1, do not lose money.
2) Rule # 2, refer to # 1.
3) Not until you can manage your emotions, you can manage your money.

Truism of Investments.
A) Buying a security is buying RISK not Return
B) You can control RISK (to a certain level, hopefully only.) But definitely not the outcome of the Return.

It hasn't been really good for value investors in the past few years...

Nonetheless, beyond the equity markets, I wish all VBs a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

While we gain meaningful rest for the journey ahead, i also wish for all VBs to have a wise time reflecting and improving ourselves (in the words of Charlie Munger) by spending each year trying to be a bit wiser than we were in the last. And year by year if we live long enough, we will get out of life what we deserve.

I think the global economic expansion has been going on for too long "artificially"(unfortunately, there was a thread discussing the next downturn but had been closed) due to the QEs, low interest rates, etc, and I do think it will go on for the forseeable future. In particular, SG's economy has been growing / maintaining its strength ever since the SARS period. The GFC only has a very short dampening impact on SG.

Sadly, I don't think we will ever see the 2003-2005 housing prices here again unless maybe a drastic change in immigration policies ; upward mobility is thus really a challenge. For retirees, the low deposit rates are not helping them either.

For value investors, I think we have to work even harder, e.g. know more industries, more companies, and expand our horizons to overseas markets. Sad

Thanks, those are really comforting words.  Smile   Sometimes it does take years of hardwork and a lot of patience to see our investments bearing fruits, unlike a regular job which collects pay cheques every month. That's why I think not everyone is suited to go on this path especially full-time - among other attributes, it needs a lot of conviction and self-discipline.

Thanks Cyclone, WeiJian and other valuebuddies.

It's definitely very tough for valuebuddies in FY19.
In fact, not just FY19 but past few years (for some last 10 years), value investment was very tough.
Let's hope that the worst had been over and everyone will be looking forward to identify more potential two baggers similar profile to Penguin.

Merry Christmas and wish everyone has a peaceful holiday.

Totally agree with Munger that we base our improvement on a yearly basis so we do not rush into undesirables. I didn't know that it had so much implication when I first heard the tortoise and hare story but I actually see it in say SG vs neighbouring counties or the divergence of the 4 Asian Tigers in the past.

Have a blessed Christmas season everyone with your love ones

PS value style has caught up since August... so have faith VBs Smile
